A contemporary design where the humble concrete block is the hero. Vertical spaces tied together by a sliver of white steel. A cool spot in a tropical clime. Casa Pacaembu by São Paulo based AMC – Arquitetura e Interiores.

Crazy busy. Crazy busy. Frantic, pulling my hair out, stressed. But then there is always this, always here, always peaceful. TsAO & McKOWN via homelife.

Apartment remodel

I love the deep window recesses which mean wide ledges for perching. I love the holes above the radiator. I love the pull down screen/blind for lazy Sunday afternoon movie watching but most of all I love that this is a cool family home, full shelves and chalk wall scrawl and all. “This light filled harbour-side location and the client’s artistic background enabled us to explore subtle pastel hues mixed with a more artisan approach in detailing the Woolloomooloo Bay apartment. The selection of lime-washed timber floor boards paired with soft pistachio and grey hues created a tranquil and calming environment”.

You may be impressed by the contemporary extension and renovation of this 1908 brick house by SJB. I’m impressed by the renovation of that great Australian icon, the outdoor toilet, the relic of a time before sewerage, the dunny. So many have been demolished or left to decay as inadequate and forgotten “tool sheds”. I think this one is the first 5 star dunny I have seen. I’m stalking Aussie icons in Balmain, Sydney. Link here while it lasts.
