Bright and bold …

… and Brazilian. Apartment living that is fun and fab. I love the design coming out of Brazil. A mix of cutting edge contemporary and retrolicious with a riot of colour and art. It’s young and fresh and fun. Residence Canario by Maurício Arruda.

Stalking on a Saturday

I’m stalking another wonderful example of the imperfectly perfect or is that the perfectly imperfect? All I know is the location is perfect, Avalon in the Northern Beaches/Pittwater area of Sydney. The house is a perfect little shack. A little shabby but as stylish and chic as a shack could ever want to be. And the view from the deck is… sigh… perfect. Please someone buy it and keep it just as it is. It’s being sold as a development site (it will no doubt have a ridicously high reserve price) but in the perfect world of my dreams this little shack will be bought by my best friend who will let me use it any weekend I like. De Wet 34

Views that go on forever anchored by the raw textures of concrete, rock and timber. Dramatic volumes defining open plan living areas. Bespoke furniture and high end finishes. Stairs that take you on a tactile journey. A pool terrace that taunts the view and a master bedroom suite that rivals any 5 star resort. Sensual and sensational, definitely a statement home. You’ll find me on the terrace indulging in the view and some rays. De Wet 34, Bantry Bay, Cape town by SAOTA – Stefan Antoni Olmesdahl Truen Architects & OKHA Interiors.

Taylor Reynolds

Take a classic 1960’s commercial warehouse building. Bland, boring, in need of a little reuse, redesign magic. Insert two residential apartments and a ground floor retail/office space into the shell. The apartments reference the 60s vernacular of the warehouse building. Glass and steel window walls, internal courtyard. Cool interiors. Cool inner city living. Mission accomplished. Great space. Great reuse of an existing building. By Melbourne firm Taylor Reynolds.

Stalking an artist’s house

I’m real estate stalking in Bondi Junction in Sydney. More and more these days I’m drawn to real homes. A little battered about the corners but still stylish. Don’t get me wrong. I love a big glitzed glamazon of a house like the next interior design junkie but I know I’ll never own one. Here’s what the agent wrote on the listing… “Refreshingly different and brimming with artistic flair, this freestanding home has been lovingly held by one family for more than 40 years.” maybe some agent will write that about my house when it’s time for me to let it go.
