House as art. House as high drama. House as collection. House as controversy. House as pretense. House as stage on which to play out fantasy and life. House that is loved or loathed. House as home. Hampton’s house by P&T Interiors.
A former Methodist church built in the 1840s has been lovingly renovated by its new owners. As much as possible of the original fabric has been kept… tin ceilings restored, original floors retained and windows replicated. A labour of love and it shows. The church, in Martha’s Vineyard in the United States, is one open space. Dining table and living area and bed in a great room with wet bar, kitchenette and bathroom with a large tub and shower. Does that give you a hint of its new life? Yes it’s a vacation rental. (The nearby 2 bedroom house is also part of the package.) Oh count me in! The only thing I love better than a church conversion is the opportunity to live in one even if just for the holidays. The Vineyard Retreat is another hand-picked paradise from Welcome Beyond.
Modern family needs and aged Mediterranean patina and all of this is Scottsdale, Arizona. Based on a rural farmhouse the home surrounds a central courtyard with pool providing ample opportunity to tie the inside to the the out. A series of intimate rooms not large open plan areas ensures the home, though large, is on a more human scale. New yet old, relaxed yet sophisticated. Perfect for an afternoon nap. Minimalist, modern shutters. OK it’s a kid’s room but maybe I can fit on the bed for my nana nap. I get so sleepy in the afternoon. By Alexander & CO.
An open plan 250 sq m apartment in Barcelona. Overhead lighting defines the spaces with a central, cave like core for bathing. Each space is a vessel with its own identity from sleeping through to bathing, the library, the kitchen and the living area. The rough shell of concrete and brick from the original building envelops the new slick finishes, traditional bones cradling contemporary inserts. The Vessels Apartment by TC-Interiors.
