Design Crew

Got a problem? Need some help? Just standing there shaking your head? Don’t know what to do? You’re not alone. Send us a link to photos of your design quandary and let the Desire to Inspire design crew help you…. that’s you lot… the readers! This week’s problem is from Kelly.

I’d like to submit photos of the master bedroom in our new apartment for the design crew’s input.  This wall is the only one that really works to put the bed on, but I’m stumped because of the windows being off-centered.  I’d like to build an upholstered headboard, but I just feel like it will look silly covering half of the window?  And I don’t want to push the bed in the corner either because then either my husband or I will have to crawl across the other to get in/out of bed! I’d love some suggestions as to what I can do to balance out this wall/make the bed/headboard work!  Don’t worry- new nightstands and bedding are on the agenda as well.  Thanks!

Night and day

I’ll start this post by saying that I would happily move into Les Interieurs‘ studio in Newport Beach and blissfully live amongst the stock. I adore Pamela Makin’s work.  Remember this…

from this post? I didn’t think it could get any better. Well it has. New work from Les Interieurs. I think of it as night and day. Black, white and natural. Tribal, timber and art and artifact. It’s just perfect. The homes today are moody and black or atmospheric and naturally neutral… or both. Perfect.

And here’s why I want to most into Les Interieurs’ workspace and studio. Sigh.

Still stalking

Hidden amongst the tree ferns and gum trees, up a winding stone path is a quaint one bed room weekender. Yarramie Cottage was built in the 1920s with views across the Great Mackerel Beach valley in the Pittwater area north of Sydney. A sandy beach 5 minutes walk away makes this cute little stone gem a perfect holiday escape especially in the hot Australian summers… although I must admit I’d love to curl up near the fire in winter, far from the madding crowd. Wildlife, trail walks, beach, seclusion and a significant other. Sometimes real estate stalking takes you unexpected places. Love it. Link here while it lasts.

2kul Interior Design

Polish design is centre stage again. The creative scene in this country is hot hot hot at the moment. Case in point this stunning private home by 2kul Interior Design. mixes the right on trend black and white with layers of natural finishes, rough luxe and texture and revs it up a notch with an amazing industrial effect balustrading to the staircase. It’s a clever mix of old and new and the perfect hard edged modern foil to a softened, almost shabby meets scandi vibe.

Stalking small and stylish in Sydney

Today I’m stalking a bijou terrace in Darlinghurst, Sydney. Elegant, refined and loaded with style. A perfect space for a single (or couple). I have my usual gripe with real estate shots. I want to see more and I want to see it better. This house reminded me how much I liked upholstered walls in a room. here it is a very traditional look but strangely I don’t mind that at all although this room has me wondering if something has been removed. A daybed? Yes I’m fantasising about a small daybed, a bateau, a sleigh bed piled with pillows and using the space as a dressing room. Oh a desk. How about a desk? Link here while it lasts.
