I’m real estate stalking the home of interior designer Anna Spiro in Birkdale here in Queensland. Known for her exuberant use of textiles, patterns and colour the colonial house is a showcase of her eclectic style while still maintaining its historical features like VJ walls, sash windows, tin roof and wide verandas. Surrounded by lush gardens it’s a quintessential Queenslander home.  Link here while it lasts.

Byron Bay coastal

It’s a holiday where I live. A three day weekend to get away, relax, rewind. The Cape Beach House designed by Uneek Interior Solutions in the Northern New South Wales coastal town of Byron Bay is a stylish bed and breakfast redolent of that laid-back sun, sand and surfing riff. Unfortunately the border between Queensland and New South Wales is closed and although this fab beach house is only a couple of hours away for now I’ll have to daydream of a future stay.

It may only be a one bedroom cottage but what it lacks in size it makes up for with its stylish, modern country vibe. Plank walls, natural materials, well loved vintage pieces and a gentle light flowing in through mulipaned windows. A wonderful weekend getaway or a special home for one … or two. Colour, colour, colour. For those who think that Australian designers can only do beige I give you The Palm, Woollahra by POCO Designs.Take a mid century vibe, wrap it in a jewel box of bright colours, open the interiors to the outside, sprinkle on the luxe and you’ll never crave beige again.

Curvaceous

“… this home shows how one simple curve can not only inspire the architects, but, as importantly, set them on a new path of discovery.”

Two self-contained apartments were re-imagined as one three-level home with the sinuous curve of a staircase climbing a monumental void. Arc Side by Melbourne-based design studio Jolson.
