Seamless sanctuary by the sea

Posted on Tue, 13 Dec 2022 by midcenturyjo

Poised seamlessly between sea and rocky forest this family home in Bandol, France explores the relationship between light and shade, monolith and void, natural materials and minimalism, inside and out. The dichotomy continues. Brutal and spartan but welcoming and cave-like, a sanctuary. By Geneva-based architect Valerie Chomarat.

Designers’ own

“This place is so special to us because it’s our own studio headquarters in Whitley Heights! The space is in a constant state of flux and encompasses our love of furniture, art, design, and all things beautiful. The upstairs area is where our founding partners, Kat Bell and James Drew, reside. The downstairs is our studio office which serves as a creative hub for our team.”

A home (and a workspace) should be packed with personality. What you surround yourself with should be what you love, whaqt makes you laugh, what makes your mind spin and your creative juices flow. Whitley Heights by L.A.-based Argyle.

Full of character and colour. Just one look and you know it’s quintessential English style. Old sits with new while pattern is layered and celebrated. It’s all eminently sensible and it’s all a lot of jolly fun. Living life well in the Riverside House, West London by Kate Guinness.

Finca fabulous

Posted on Thu, 1 Dec 2022 by midcenturyjo

Is it the weekend yet? Please? I think I’ll spend today daydreaming that I’m holidaying at this spectacularly renovated 300-year-old finca with nine luxurious bedroom suites, a saltwater swimming pool, dedicated wellness area and a sound-proofed party cave. Yes a sound-proofed party cave. For me it’s just a dream but maybe you can go. Finca La Inika available for rent via Domus Nova.

“Pacific House is an alteration and addition to an existing 1990’s concrete framed cliffside dwelling. It is exposed to the Easterly facing ocean and closely adjacent similar cliffside dwelling structures. We have replanned the dwelling, adding external amenity including landscape works and a swimming pool. We have also modified portions of the exterior building envelope including doors and windows, cladding, entries, external decks, facades and pergolas.”

A contemporary home with luxe finishes, clean-lined, beautiful and functional in a stunning but sometimes hostile environment. Pacific House by Alexander and Co.
