Grant Featherston

Grant Featherston (1922-1995) is another Australian design icon I would like to share with you. What Hans Wegner is to mid century devotees in America, Grant Featherston is to Australians. Devoted to promoting a philosophy of good design and opposing the stifling forces of conservatism with an alternative to the overstuffed post-war sofas Grant Featherston gained success in the 1950s with his clean organic designs. The now famous contour chair can still be found in homes as well as fashionable design stores and museum collections.

I love these pics… how had I never heard of Featherston. The blue vinyl chair at architonic is SO yummy (http://www.architonic.com/4104783). I’m not a big fan of vinyl, but I’m a little obsessed with those rich blues lately.

Thanks for that! I would like an original one not a reproduction (just doens’t have the same feel). I will keep an eye on the websites and see what comes up but they are expensive but then again One great chair! Thanks Stacey

It may be an original seat but the base is all wrong and looks like a clumsy replacement. Unless it went for dirt cheap I wouldn’t touch it because for it to have true resale value you’d have to find an original set of legs. Not an easy thing to do. In it’s present state it looks clunky but hey if it goes for $35 you get a nice almost there Featherston and you can wait and hope to find the legs .
