I wish I could live in this New York apartment. I wish I could be clean and tidy. I wish my fat labrador didn’t shed hair, that my blind husband didn’t drag dirty fingers along walls as he walks through the space, that I always manage to spill a drop or two of my coffee as I traverse the kitchen. I wish I could live in this white wonderland. White walls, white floors, white and light furniture. I wish that powder room was mine. I could live happily just in that powder room. I wish I didn’t shed hair like my dog. I wish I had a cleaning lady. I wish I lived in this New York apartment. Sigh… I wish. By Resolution: 4 Architecture.

Poignant/funny post.
Here's the thing about living in a white wonderland: might be easier than living in TechniColor (wow, that word dates me.) I've lived with sizable packs of rescue dogs all my life in all my homes, and have had every kind of decor you can conjure. The last house — dramatic black walls in the bedroom, black enamel cabinets, black flooring — the WORST to keep clean! Wiping down walls and cabinets invariably left light streaks. The floor showed every hair that dropped off a hound. I had three, yes three, iRobots running everyday to sweep the floors cleanish. That's not even me vacuuming and mopping.
Fast forward to my current house — white walls, glossy white Ikea cabs, white countertops, pale grey floor. SO much easier! No streaks or evident paint wearing away from wiping things down. Cabinets look better than last custom ones and never need painting. Now I have the hairier dogs shaved down to summer cuts and donated the iRobots. All I do is a quick sweep of the broom between weekly mopping. Picked up many hours I used to spend cleaning everyday.
Unlike colorful textiles, white bedding and upholstery can take some bleach when needed. Slip-covers and vinyl fabrics also can ease the whole upholstery thing. so yeah, I love my white wonderland. If a color craving hits, a bunch of flowers are the easy cure.

Love this!. We too have a labrador (I'm surprised she's not naked with the amount she sheds – sigh) but I would be happy to follow her around much of the day with a vacuum to live in this apartment.

Don't worry. They have kids so it won't look this pristine very long!

I'm not sure. It is beautiful and the storage is fabulous. The bathrooms are lovely also. It just lacks a bit of soul??? It just feels a little repressed. I'd get a crazy urge to mess it up but I couldn't do it. Very thought provoking.
Agree with the comment on toilet art. Maybe if you're in the bad books your photo goes under the bowl and you get splashed. There seems to be a boy in the house so its bound to happen.

C'mon! why comment so much on the artwork next to the toilet bowl? It's not expensive artwork for sure. Maybe a map, a drawing or a paper towel with nice colours framed in an inexpensive frame. It's easy to wipe clean when necessary. How else could they make that wall cohesive?
