The historic sandstone cottage in Sydney’s Balmain had undergone many changes to its fabric over the years. Let’s just say that they weren’t all sympathetic. Carter Williamson Architects‘ renovation has seen the exterior revitalised while the interior has been renewed whilst respecting the narrative of the old home. Walls slide and disappear, old and new are juxtaposed and the choice of materials lets the richness of the original cottage walls become the decoration in this modest, yet spacious and flexible home.
Anne says:
Stunning design, feels very 'Australian'. A simple handmade nearly 200 year old sandstone workers cottage typical of this local area turned into a home for the 21st century. Quite likely to also have water views. ;0)
