An Edwardian villa in Johannesburg

Posted on Sun, 13 Jan 2019 by KiM

My sister sent me a link to a sköna hem feature of this absolutely breathtaking Edwardian villa in Johannesburg and I immediately knew I had to share. This has got to be one of the most beautiful homes I have ever seen. Those with a penchant for modern architecture, come hither and let me convert thee!!! This is country living at its finest.

I am a fan of modern architecture, but no need to convert me! It’s beautiful. I am a torn soul, between minimal modern and the great craftsmanship that you don’t see anymore- the details, without fussiness- are wonderful to spend time looking at. Even the furnishings.

And how did they get their dogs to sleep under the counter?! No tripping over them at every turn!

April says:

I love a home that is beautifully designed but looks undesigned — just lived in. One of the loveliest homes I’ve ever seen.

What a very interesting find your sister found and location.
Would like to know more about the history of the house but language barrier when you click the site. Edwardian is one long hall and here’s a room to the left, here’s a room to the right, at least NYC. But you don’t get that here. Looks like an artist lives there. Glass work is marvelous.

Deb says:

It is listed with Sotheby’s International Realty… https://www.sothebysrealty.co.za/results/residential/for-sale/johannesburg/westcliff/house/51185/

KiM says:

WHOA thanks for the link Deb! It’s huge!!!!

b says:

Saw the Sotheby’s. And that fireplace is so great. Looks almost ancient. What a great find.
