From Croatia

A reader named Sanja from Croatia emailed the other day with a link to her blog where she frequently features Croatian interiors. I love to see decor from different countries around the world and thought I’d share some spaces from Croatian magazine moja 4 zida that she has featured homes from on her blog. This first loft is located in Zagreb and is the home of interior designer Mirena Skoric. Love the bold turquoise sofa! (Photos: Frane Fabris)

I’m not sure where this next home is located but I LOVE the raw, warehouse-like shell and white painted brick/cement walls. And I must mention the inset patch of hardwood in the cement floor. Gorgeous!! (Photos: Guliver/Inside Photo)

Monday’s pets on furniture – part 2

Posted on Mon, 23 Apr 2012 by KiM

If you’d like to send me photos to include in next week’s “pets on furniture” post, please ensure your photos follow my basic rules: First, the pet must be on a piece of furniture. And said piece of furniture must be clearly visible in the photo, so it takes center stage rather than your pet. Think of it more of a photo of a great piece of furniture that you want to show off…and your pet happens to be sitting on it. And second, the photo must be of decent quality. If it’s dark or fuzzy (from a camera phone) then it may not make the cut. Thanks! (Photos, your name, location and a brief description can be sent to desiretoinspirekim@hotmail.comand PLEASE don’t send closeups of your pet!)

Here are a couple of photos of Gladys, my rescued Maine Coon kitty, basking in the sunshine on her knitted pouf. She adopted me about two months ago, and her favorite thing to do during the day is follow the sun around our apartment.
– Wendy and Gladys (Oakland, CA)

This is Meahkay, a 12-year-old Sphinx who lives with my best friend Kim in San Diego. Meah is sitting on a red satin cushion with a heated towel (one gets cold with no fur) on a zebra-print slipper chair. Only the best for a princess!

1 – Our little guy loves anywhere with a higher view. Our 100 year old heritage has a ton of built-ins that we gave a fresh coat of glossy white.
2 –
I think he spends more time on the couch than we do, this time curled up in my wool throw (it’s still a bit chilly here on the west coast of Canada). I know what you’re thinking – white couch and a black dog…but I just love white!
– Katrina (Vancouver, BC)

This is our cat – MegaCat – he is exceedingly fluffy and this red IKEA pouffe is one of his chosen spots. He arrived as a rescue kitten a year ago – with his mum Whiskers and brother Noah. They’ll possibly be a bit jealous if his picture gets posted – so will no doubt be posing for their own photos before long!
– Tom (London)

Oscar & Bruno our boxer dogs, who are half-brothers, looking very comfortable on our bed…on our armchair.
– Louise (Lakeview, Nova Scotia)

This is a picture of my grandmother’s lovely parker knoll chair, wonderfully comfortable for human and dog! The two velvet cushions are great to stroke and their bright colours enhance the colour of the chair and our blonde cocker spaniel called Honey!!
– Debbie (Amersham, London)

Dylan was a flea-ridden, scrawny golden retriever when I picked him from a shelter here two years ago. Now, he’s healthy, loves his little brother (another rescue Daschund), and loves posing on furniture.
– Sathy (Bangalore, India)

We just acquired a discarded chair because we’re too poor to buy furniture right now but our cat Chloe immediately gave her approval, and it’s comfortable.
– Paul (Chico, CA)

Attached is a photo of my kitten Shansi on my bed! His breed is actually stated as, “Decorative and almost a piece of the furniture.” Being that I work from home, as an interior designer I thought he was the most perfect little accessory :)! I only read this AFTER I fell in love with him and insisted on bringing him home :). And well from the photo I think you can see that he really is a beautiful little decoration.
Alexandra (Hong Kong)

I’m sending you some pics of our cat Jojka taking over our furnitures, maybe you’ll like one. Jojka is one year old now, she was a wedding “gift” from my husband (he got a motorbike 😉 )
– Ania (Krakow, Poland)

Here is another nice picture of the Pug “El Toro” that I thought might fit your blog : ) The cushion is from Stargo Collection.
Isabelle

Meet Cléo, a sweet daschund I adopted from a shelter 12 years ago. Her greatest talent: finding just the right spot to cuddle up. She knows her stuff.
– Colette (Montreal)

We got a new sofa and Freddy immediately gave it his approval! This is his favorite pose, no matter where he lands.
– Laura (Port Aransas, TX)

The first photo is of my Scottish Terrier, Oliver, in his favorite spot on the center hall sofa where he watches the world (his world) go by. The next is a scene that greeted me recently when, after working for hours at my desk, I looked up to find both Oliver and Tilly patiently waiting. We all deserved the walk outside that followed !!!

Another Swedish pad

Posted on Sun, 22 Apr 2012 by KiM

I’ve spent the last couple of days hanging out with my inlaws who are visiting from P.E.I and shortly I am heading out to Montreal for the day with my sisters and mom to shop for clothes. All that to say I didn’t have much time to get a post ready for today. My twin sister sent me a link the other day to a Swedish apartment she found on Stockholm/New York based real estate firm Eklund. The decor is quirky which I love and it also has lots of bits of colour which I am also a fan of (despite my constant appreciation on here for neutrals). You really can’t go wrong with a red Smeg. It makes any kitchen come to life.

Alia Bengana – part 3

Posted on Fri, 20 Apr 2012 by KiM

I have one last project to share with you by architect Alia Bengana. This one is a 150 square metre apartment in Paris with a very cool layout. The place was originally a classic apartment in a building of the 20s. The clients wanted a contemporary space without completely losing the atmosphere of the place.  Attention has been focused on the central living space which distributes all the rooms of the apartment. Five doors open on this place, they have been refined and lengthened, custom designed and opening around the pivots for enabling the discovery of the spaces hidden behind, each of different colors. The doors have also been put into perspective in order to always see one in the axis or diagonally from the surrounding rooms, thus creating a space that is both calm and dynamic at the same time. I love how Alia made features out of the large amount of doors leading out of the main living space. And I must mention that my dream bathroom is after the jump.
