Bklyn Designs 2009

Bklyn Designs is New York’s hottest exhibition of designers and manufacturers of contemporary furnishings, lighting, and accessories made and/or designed in Brooklyn, all handpicked by a jury of editors from leading design and shelter magazines. It was held this past weekend and Grace of design*sponge was a judge. She spent 2 days wandering around shooting video of her favourites from the show. She created 2 videos (that she clearly put alot of effort into), seen on her blog here and here, or below. Some really cool stuff – I bet Grace had a blast! (I know I would have).

I was so excited to stumble upon the portfolio of Danish photographer Morten Holtum. Such beautiful, light-filled photos of bright and eclectic spaces that I fell in love with. Hellooooooo white floors and that pink staircase! And the photo above? HEAVEN.

To end of the week, I thought I’d showcase some really pretty photos from Canadian photographer Robin Stubbert whose work has been featured in Country Living, Canadian Home & Country, and Style at Home (DTI has a mention in this month’s issue!). Enjoy the weekend – get some gardening done, visit or at least call your mother on Sunday and I’m going to try and finally get my bedroom done-ish.

the find

This morning a book arrived at my house and what a great way to start off my long weekend (I am off work today). the find is “The Housing Works book of decorating with thrift shop treasures, flea market objects and vintage details”. In other words this is one of my new favourite books as that is how I love to decorate! It’s FILLED with fabulous photos of spaces that are a wide variety of styles (eclectic, hollywood regency, modern, shabby chic…), and text about not just what to look for, but also how to look at an object to identify a great piece. To my surprise, while I flipped through the book I noticed features by our friends David Jimemez, Vanessa De Vargas, and many designers and stylists we have showcased here on DTI. Here’s a little sample of what you’ll find in the find, which is written by Stan Williams and photographed by Jim Franco (check here for where to get your hands on a copy).
