How to win me over in 2 steps. 1 – install some crittall doors as a room separator. 2 – install some old-school patterned tile in a “rug” pattern. Studio Karhard + TWArchitecten won me over just like that with this Berlin apartment renovation.

Welcome to the magical and whimsical world of Jorge Cañete of design studio Interior Design Philosophy. The word Serendipity is crucial in the studio’s philosophy. This world means a « happy accident » or « pleasant surprise »; specifically, the accident of finding something good or useful while not specifically searching for it. The ultra-personalized approach of the studio INTERIOR DESIGN PHILOSOPHY suggests creating projects that are inspired by the environment, by the location itself, as well as the client’s personality. In doing so, the resultant of the equation of these three sources of inspiration is unique and coherent every time, by materializing clients’ emotions. Each project starts as a white page where the story and values of the client will be written. Given this philosophy, I would LOVE to get to know the homeowners of this mansion. Also, the way that chandelier is “hung” almost has me in tears it is so beautiful. (I highly suggest you also view Jorge’s portfolio with the sound on)

One of my all-time favourite interior photographers Paul Raeside has updated his website – it’s like Christmas! I’ve been a fan for many years and his work is total eye candy. It seems he has shot some of my favourite homes as of late, like that of Sera Hersham-Loftus and my Instagram friend Suszi Saunders. So enjoy some of that eye candy care of Paul.

If you would like to participate in the Monday’s pets on furniture series please send photos, your name, location and a brief description to kim[at]desiretoinspire[dot]net, or hashtag your photos on Instagram with #DTIpetsonfurniture. Thanks!
And some from me. All of my best buddy Felix. The last one isn’t him on furniture but he was such a perfect model I had to include it too.

This quite possibly is my favourite commercial space I have ever shared here. By Dublin-based Kingston Lafferty Design. Inspired by fascinating Irish history, The Vaults Live is an innovative and theatrical large-scale tourist attraction located in the heart of Dublin City. The Vaults offers a unique and exhilarating tour and experience by taking the visitor on a journey throughout the most scandalous and exciting tales in a stunningly renovated original four-storey Victorian building. The experience includes stunning 360° sets, state of the art lighting, lavish costumes and special effects. We were contacted by the client, The Vaults Live, to design a café parlour and retail space that visitors are brought into at the end of the one-hour experience.

The last set from the tour is with Molly Malone. We wanted to carry on a narrative from that experience and era, opting to create a lavish and indulgent parlour. With influence from the classic parlour room, we studied and researched Irish examples, wallpapers, furniture, fixtures and fittings, textiles and artwork from the Victorian era before seeking to merge the traditional with contrasting sleek, contemporary elements. We designed the suspended ceiling to house rabbit holes appearing to have grasses growing from them. We altered the roof light to create a tunnel effect to the sky and another to have inset mirror reflecting the Alice in Wonderland inspired chequered floor.
