A cabin with river views

The best little weekend getaway is right here in Olympic Peninsula, Washington with views of the Sol Duc River. The design of this cabin by Tom Kundig is absolutely brilliant. This 350-square-foot cabin is a small perch for its occupant. It is located in one of the few temperate rainforests in the world, and “rainforest” here means wet and rather cold, as opposed to wet and hot. Putting the cabin on stilts protects it from the clammy dampness and occasional flooding. The owner is an avid steelhead fisherman. The design allows him and his wife to arrive at this remote location, open the place up, and get to fishing as quickly as possible. The shutters are operated manually via custom steel rods. The large panels slide on hardware that was originally designed for sliding barn doors, attached to the steel roof beam structure.

Minimalism in Fulham

Posted on Wed, 10 May 2017 by KiM

Modern minimalism in a period building. Midcentury references in a sleek London pad. A sharp contemporay look softened by the thick wool rug and touches of brass. Modern white and clean lined timber accents moves to muted moodiness in the bedroom. Lovely to look at. Even better to stay. The Butterfly in Fulham available for vacation rental via The Plum Guide.

A New York City loft

Another project by Threshold Interiors I had to share because it’s SO nice to see a loft not decorated with an industrial vibe. Here the beams are exposed and left natural, the brick is painted white and the new kitchen (which unfortunately covers some of those glorious windows) is classic in design. The result is much more homey and charming.

A Craftsman beach house

What a fabulous beach house designed by Threshold Interiors! This Jersey Shore Craftsman is so pleasing to the eye with lots of fun touches like graphic floor tile (and fireplace surround), wallpaper (love that Farrow & Ball Aranami pattern in the bathroom), and the bathrooms are absolutely stunning. And what about this kitchen!! Subway tile, copper, and pale grey cabinets make it timeless and polished.

A nautical summer retreat in Sag Harbour

When I think of summer I start dreaming about cottages and cabins and beach houses, and this summer retreat in Sag Harbour, New York is a little gem and a great place to spend warm summer weekends. Designed by Elizabeth Cooper, its nautical vibe with blues, stripes, pops of red and shiplap works so well in this environment. And those bleached wood floors have me swooning.
