House of Gold

Posted on Mon, 14 Jun 2010 by midcenturyjo

A few weeks ago Zdenka sent pictures of her adorable pups for Pets on Furniture. I loved what I saw of her Croatian home in the background. Of course I didn’t go lurking straight away. No I only decided to snoop further today. I’m glad I did! Zdenka’s home is amazing. Simple, stylish, fresh and… you can stay there. It’s the House of Gold and perches in a steep winding lane in the medieval village of Motovun. I’m thinking of getting together a house party. Want to come? (If only it wasn’t a dream… I’d love to visit Croatia.) If you want to see what Zdenka started with and her renovation journey visit her blog. It’s not for the faint hearted. OMG what a transformation!

… and thanks for the long weekend!

Let me explain. It’s a long weekend in most (but not all) of Australia. We are having an extra day off because it’s Queen Elizabeth II ‘s birthday. Except that was back in April and I live in a country that is slowly moving towards a republic. Just a good Aussie excuse of a three day weekend. So happy belated birthday Liz, Queen of  the Commonwealth realms: the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Jamaica, Barbados, the Bahamas, Grenada, Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, Tuvalu, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Belize, Antigua and Barbuda, and Saint Kitts and Nevis. I bet they all celebrate your birthday on different days too! Does that mean 16 birthday cakes? For the rest of you welcome to our latest reading guide.

+fotogénica

+ fotogénica – remember that name. They are the photography studio that has me so excited. There is something about Spanish design that is so hot at the moment. Their amazing interiors buy into the whole rustic trend so well but it’s a sophisticated interpretation. Stylish but real. Steeped in history but refreshingly modern. And + fotogénica, a collaboration between Carlos Yagüe and Pili Molina understand the Spanish look so well. They are more than just photographer and stylist. They are editors and journalists, a graphic designer and a lover of images and design, of light and style. It’s a holistic approach. No wonder their work appears in Interiores and Elle Deco. New photographer duo crush and I think I will have this one for quite some time.

Hola!

Posted on Thu, 10 Jun 2010 by midcenturyjo

Just a little teaser of tomorrow’s post. Cecilia emailed with a link to the most fabulous photographer’s website and I think I have a new crush. Then today I was trawling through the newsagent looking for new magazines (Hi my name is Jo and I’m a interior design magazine addict) and picked up the latest Interiores magazine. Latest in Australia that is. Flicking through the pages then “Hola!” there are the pictures from my new photographer crush. Serendipity don’t you think? I won’t reveal all, not yet. Tomorrow tomorrow tomorrow…. Oh before I forget does anyone know of if Spanish magazine Interiores has a website? I can’t get enough of this magazine lately. FABULOUS!  And Cecilia I know you have a blog but you never left a link for me to follow. Leave a comment below and we will all come over and visit 🙂

An apartment renaissance in Singapore

Posted on Thu, 10 Jun 2010 by midcenturyjo

Desire to Inspire covers all corners of the world from the UK to the Seychelles and Alaska to New Zealand. Homes in the USA, Australia, Norway and today Singapore. As any of you who have travelled to this small nation in Asia will know, many of the population live in highrise apartments. Row after row of them.  Stanley Tham and Kusnin Tan are KNQ Associates and their specialty is what they call Home Rejuvenation, transforming Singapore’s cookie cutter apartments into something special. We’ve featured their work before but Stan sent over one of their latest projects. Based on their client’s love of all things Renaissance, KNQ has taken a modern twist on the sumptuousness of that time. My favourite? The dark and brooding dressing room. Imagine being able to indulge your fashion fetish in your spare room!  For the full story go to their blog Home Rejuvenation.

(P.S. Home Rejuvenation are once again running their 10 Most Influential Design Bloggers poll. Just by nominating you are in the running for one of three Wallpaper* subscriptions. More info here. )

No I’m starting in the wrong spot. Let’s go back to the beginning. The entry then the living spaces, the guest bedroom come music room and finally the master bedroom.
