I like to think that my taste in decorating runs to the eclectic end of the spectrum. Admittedly I have dabbled with mid century and Hollywood Regency. I even tried minimalism. All abject failures. I couldn’t be so rigid in my taste. I liked a little bit of this, a smattering of that. High end and junk shop, family heirloom and battered hand-me-down, modern and antique and all of this arranged lovingly into my 1860 house. No wonder I’m totally smitten by this Upstate Colonial by New York-based interior designer Shawn Henderson. The interiors are sophisticated, layered and relaxed. New meets old with honesty and style to create a simple beauty.
How cute is this little girl’s bedroom by Sydney-based Lily Rose Interiors? Simple, stylish and fun with only a smidgen of pink.
Living small. Tiny house. Buzz words for a fleeting trend vs social movement and way of the future. Wherever you stand on tiny houses there is something we can all agree on. How incredibly stylish and devilishly clever is this compact recreation house near Utrecht in Holland by Roel van Norel and Zecc Architecten? It comes in at 40 m² or about 430 ft². Yes you can shake your head and say it’s great for a holiday but you couldn’t live there forever. Why not? I know I’d love to give it a try.

No you’re not going crazy. This is not yesterday’s post. Thanks to a reader’s comment I’m stalking the concrete luxe house. It’s for sale and that means there are loads more photos on the realtor’s website as well as a floor plan to help figure it all out. Even though there has been some judicious styling for the shots I think I love the house even more because of the evidence of everyday life. A family lives here. Art is on the wall. Clothes hang in a wardrobe. New furniture has been added over time. Concrete House 1 by Auhaus Architecture for sale via hockingstuart. Link here while it lasts.

I’m stalking in Stockholm. An apartment with those old Swedish building bones we all salivate over. You know… tall windows allowing light to stream in, double doors to fling open as you progress from room to room. It’s missing the traditional kakelugn stove but there is a bath tub in the bedroom (in case you need more than the usual white tiled Swedish apartment shower room), a walk-in closet and a terrace.
