Still stalking

Posted on Tue, 6 Oct 2015 by midcenturyjo

I’m arranging an inspection. Who wants to come? We can open the wardrobes, rifle through the drawers when the agent isn’t looking, find out who lives here. Then we can assume their lives and their house. That’s what stalkers do don’t they? No no no. Just kidding. That’s creepy. I would love to meet whoever owns this lovely home though. Great taste. Stalking bright and white

I’m in Paddington Sydney and I’m stalking a warehouse conversion. Bright, white, what a delight! Indoor outdoor living with a relaxed, urban cool vibe. Colour, tick. Mid-mod industrial, tick. City skyline views, tick. Party house, tick. Perfect. Just need the $2.4 million. Oh well. A girl can dream. Link here while it lasts.

Last Thursday was an exciting day. Iconic home furnishings brands Pottery Barn, Pottery Barn Kids and West Elm opened under one enormous roof in Brisbane. “Ho-hum” yawn those of you who have lived with the Williams-Sonoma group for many years. But not for me. The new kids on the block were bringing their heady mix of unique design, exceptional customer service and their renowned in-store experiences to Bris-Vegas and I wasn’t going to miss out on the media preview.

You know what? I was surprised. Not by the quality or the price point or that sales assistants are called associates but by the fact that even though I call myself Midcenturyjo it wasn’t just West Elm’s mid-mod urban vibe that appealed. No I was seduced by Pottery Barn too! I could move right in!

These are a few of the photos I snapped on the day including the handmade tile installation on the West Elm counter by local ceramist Kylie Johnson of Paperboat Press.

I’ll let you into a secret. I’m scheming on a way to move into the new stores permanently. I could so easily live in all of them.

This post was bought to you in collaboration with Pottery Barn, Pottery Barn Kids and West Elm.

Working on a Saturday

Except I’m not. I’m tucked up in bed with a bad cold. I even had a special post planned for today but that will have to wait a few more days. I do know that if I did have to drag my sick and sorry self into work today I’d love it to be somewhere as stylin’ as this workplace, Metrix Consulting by Melbourne-based interior design studio We are Huntley. What is bringing a smile to my face? A knot of cables as “art” on a vintage set of lockers. A tongue-in-cheek celebration of the problem we all have and try to ignore.

Ofist – Y House

As serene as the blue, blue ocean that is framed by its windows. As stylish as its fashion industry owners. The perfect summer retreat in the Turkish resort town of Bodrum, the Y House by Istanbul-based architectural firm Ofist.
