Stalking a kitchen with a garden view

Posted on Thu, 16 Oct 2014 by midcenturyjo

Can you buy a house just because of a kitchen and its garden courtyard outlook? I think you can. The rest of the house is nice (I’m sure it looks fab in real life) but it’s the breakfast window seating and that wall of plants clinging to the Sydney sandstone outcrop that has me in a twirl. I’m stalking in surprisingly leafy Paddington on a very busy road but from these photos you’d never know. Link here while it lasts.

Story

Time to take some inspiration from our favourite Finnish interior architect Joanna Laajisto and one of her latest projects, Story, in the Old Market Hall, Helsinki. There are so many ideas to steal from this space. Love the lighting including the old fish trap installation, the colour combinations, the paint with trim finishing part way up the wall, the vertical herringbone tile and the brass kick plate to pick up on a few. As much as the photos really, really make me want to try a meal at Story, they make me start rethinking my kitchen even more.

From my window

Everyday I see this house. No that’s a lie. Everyday I see the roof of this house from my window at work. Everyday finds me wondering what it looks like and who designed it. Now I know. Switch by Aardvarc.

Trellis House

An extension and refurbishment of a Post-War cottage with lots of style and not too much cash. The trellis and vines create a seasonally changing connection to the garden while covering a basic trim-deck shell. A celebration of casual subtropical living in the suburbs of Brisbane by Aardvarc.
