Stalking South Yarra

Posted on Sat, 23 Feb 2013 by midcenturyjo

I’m in Sydney for the trade fairs and I’m stalking in Melbourne. I could have arranged that a little. Perhaps I could have made it to an open for inspection if I had chosen a Sydney home. No instead I am in South Yarra in my virtual world. Pity I can’t see this one in the flesh. So much is promised in the photos, so much unseen. A little snooping in person would be the only thing that could satisfy me. Link here while it lasts.

A simple, yet stylish grey bedroom. Love the mirrored “barn door”. Photography by Jody Kivort.

Up the stairs

Climb the stairs higher and higher. A wonderland awaits. Vintage and found, old and new, fine architectural detail and quirky kitsch. Dreaming of owning this wonderful home… via Hi-Location. (They have the best locations 😉

Reading in bed

Think I might just have to settle in with a good book for an early night. I’m off for the weekend to the trade fairs in Sydney. Somehow I don’t think my hotel room will be as stylish as this bedroom by SJB. Just enough contrast between sleek contemporary design and the earthiness of vintage kilims. Slip between those crisp sheets…. aaaaaah!

Grateful Head Salon

Oh my word! Talk about rock and roll glam! Just in from Canadian photographer Brenda Liu, the Grateful Head Salon.

I photographed this for my friend Lysa Fina who owns the salon (located in Toronto). I think there are number of elements that would translate well into a home. The space has a rock ‘n roll vibe with lots of funky details, for example the raised velvet skull wallpaper and the all red show stopping bathroom. It’s far from the typical all white salons we are so used to.

I’ve included “before” photos so you can see the transformation of the space. The salon was designed with the help of Lysa’s friend and professional set designer, Nancy Niksic. I hope you enjoy!

What a transformation. Love the bathroom, the distressed walls, the skulls and Brenda captures the space perfectly. With a salon this cool the hair must be hot!
