Est

The editors of Australian digital magazine Est sent us a sneak peek at their latest edition. In Issue #4 the magazine looks to the Nordic countries for inspiration in a special Scandinavian edition of Est. Go inside the home of Icelandic Interior Designer Rut Kara and Danish homewares maven Tine K. Get to know modern day model turned street style snapper Candice Lake and see inside the home of the original street style photographer Amy Arbus in New York City. Est Issue #4 launches 31 January and I for one can’t wait.

Design Crew

Got a problem? Need some help? Just standing there shaking your head? Don’t know what to do? You’re not alone. Send us a link to photos of your design quandary and let the Desire to Inspire design crew help you …. that’s you lot… the readers! This week’s problem comes from Leigh. I know you can come up with some great ideas.

I am stuck with my fab new room, which is an extension on the back of my house, adjoining the kitchen. It has glass doors all along the back looking onto the garden. It is approx 20 x 12 feet in size but I do not know how to arrange it, or where to start. I have new oak floor, plan on a wood burner eventually, have white blinds on the windows, walls are creamy white. I have 2 arm chairs which I can recover, a leather sofa, and aim to buy another sofa, plus some other furniture. But what? Help!

Stalking warehouse déjà vu

You’ve seen this Surry Hills warehouse before. You’ve “oohed” and “aahed” over it here on the blog. It was shortlisted for the 2011 Australian Interior Design Awards. You saw it here remember? Ah yes! Now you remember. Certainly looks a little different. More lived in. More cluttered. Not so beautifully styled and squeaky new but still the same wonderful bones created by Hare + Klein Interior Design. If like me you wanted to move straight in when you first saw it then you are in luck. It’s up for sale. Link here while it lasts. I’d just need to make it a little bit more like it was in the original story 😉

White box

New white box within a white historic shell. 110m2 in a former industrial complex. The roughness of the original concrete and brick building is smoothed by a coat of white paint but still plays against the volume of the new plaster box housing kitchen, bath, bedroom and mezzanine study. Drama is created by the use of black in large industrial windows, kitchen surfaces and furniture. Minimalist apartment by Bruno Vanbesien.

“We believe in the craftsmanship and the use of natural materials. We especially use natural light and the power of the detail. It’s all in the details. The purer a space becomes by leaving all ballast or decoration, the more weight the details get.”

Feeling blue

No not sad. Just really feeling the pastel sweetness of this pretty image I found in stylist Ali Bradshaw‘s portfolio. How about tickled pink by the next one?

Or positively dotty over this one?
