We were given the opportunity to turn a beige and brown historic country house into a cheerful and welcoming forever home for one of our very favorite families. We tended to the deferred maintenance first and once all of that was sorted, we made small but significant architectural changes like removing the small wooden and shingled little porch stoop cover and replacing it with a cheerful striped awning and draperies, opening up the living room fire box to its original glorious size and dressing it in a French carved stone surround, hung crystal chandeliers, installed gas lanterns, and hung a sixteen foot tall custom made rose trellis, and window boxes every place we could fit them. When it comes to the project, we lovingly referred to as #perfectlypicardy it could be said that we have a ruthlessly edited more is more aesthetic choosing layers of chintz, plush pink mohair, tufted everything and multiple bar carts stocked to entertain all summer long…

This home in Palm Springs is a midcentury DREAM! House of Tomorrow was the home Elvis and Priscilla were to be married in but instead became their honeymoon hideaway. New owners purchased it in 2021 and with the help of designer Michelle Boudreau they sensitively reinvigorated the property, leaving the exterior seemingly untouched and gently modernized the interior. I am obsessed with that living room (rock wall, custom 14′ curved sofa, floating fireplace) and kitchen (verde allegre quartzite countertops, circular cooktop with custom exhaust hanging in the middle)! Inspired by the relaxed elegance of Milan, this inner-city apartment’s kitchen renovation by A.mi reimagines a poorly planned, hidden space dominated by a large structural column. The client’s vision for La Cucina was to create an inviting, theatrical chef’s kitchen that seamlessly connects with the dining area. A striking trumpeted island bench was designed to integrate the column, serving as a central gathering spot where guests can sit, stand and engage with the chef or fellow diners.

When in Florida…..bring on the pink! One of my favourite designers, Annie Brahler of Eurotrash, grew up in South Florida and designed this Naples home in “traditional Floridian” style but with her own dramatic, blingy spin on it. She went full-on with pink and the warm Florida weather and all the beautiful colours of the landscape are the perfect backdrop for such a bold approach. Photos: Dan Cutrona.

This classic turn-of-the-century apartment is undeniably grand. However, for our client’s young family, it also needed to feel comfortably relaxed as well as playfully evocative. Tasked with designing both for intimate family moments as well entertaining friends, an overlay of custom-designed cabinetry and furniture adds character and purpose to each space. A textured glass doorway in the foyer, distorts the blue and brass coat cupboards of the mud room beyond. Additional display shelving and lighting celebrates the client’s art collection. In the kitchen, a bespoke bistro table & banquette seating invites cosy family meals while the living room’s hidden dry bar is an entertainer’s delight. When merging classic and contemporary, respecting the elegance of the existing architecture is essential. Strong injections of colour and layers balance the scale of each room, creating a light and liveable home that is truly bespoke.
Light and liveable this absolutely is! I tend to prefer less white than is used in this apartment but it really works here to keep it airy and bright and appear larger. And I must point out how fun that map fabric covered sofa is. By Inuti Design. Photos: Fanny Radvik; Styling: Linda Ring.
