A lobster/boob bathroom. Eyeball chairs. A “conversation” bespoke sofa. A concierge desk/bar. A uterus bed. A stained glass eye window. A triple height indoor garden. Welcome to the wacky and absolutely beautiful home of artists of Philip and Charlotte Colbert created by Buchanan Studio and Chris Dyson Architects who concocted this masterpiece from five dilapidated brick terrace homes. The goals of the project at “Big Bend”, located in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, were two-fold. The design team was charged with completely re-envisioning the interior of the house through a gut renovation that would deliver amenity updates and a setting for a contemporary lifestyle. Simultaneously, restoration of the exterior and minor additions would occur with the minimal possible impact on the historic character of the building. Our client wanted the interior to surprise visitors. In response, our design delivers utterly unique, dramatic spaces created through custom casework, vaulted ceilings, and a plan that provides multiple sightlines through the house from various points of entry.
I loooooooove the mix of old and “newer” in this home and how it all looks like there’s some history behind it even if it’s been rebuilt. Malvern Hill House by Parker Studio (interiors) in collaboration with Potter & Wilson (architecture) is a heritage home in Croydon that unites Victorian charm with a bold contemporary extension. Nestled in a leafy conservation area, it was carefully restored and expanded to meet the needs of a modern family. The steel-glazed rear addition contrasts with warm interiors, where layered textures, subtle colours, and mixed materials enrich the space. The result is a refined balance between timeless heritage and modern sophistication.

Molly Kidd Studio creates homes that are both luxurious and livable, grounded in creativity and everyday comfort. Their Bay Area project is a refined new build that showcases natural materials, layered textiles and curated vintage furnishings. Thoughtful design shines in every detail, from a custom wine cabinet to a fully integrated kitchen, breakfast nook, pantry, mudroom and laundry. Each space feels personal and inviting, reflecting a story told through craftsmanship, materiality and timeless design.

Nestled in tranquil woodland this Henley cottage has been sensitively reimagined and restored by Vaughan to honour its heritage while embracing modern comfort. Inspired by the surrounding British countryside, the interiors celebrate original features, painstakingly preserved and reimagined with a light, playful touch. Natural materials and a soft palette enhance the cottage’s warmth and charm, creating a timeless yet evolving home. Though thoroughly updated, it remains deeply rooted in its setting, a peaceful retreat for both the rhythm of daily life and the quiet of the weekend
