Bundeena House

Posted on Wed, 29 Mar 2023 by midcenturyjo

“Set in the bush and beach hamlet of Bundeena, this house is a contextual response to the local vernacular of modest fisher-cottages. Its single-storey, timber-clad form wraps around a sunny central courtyard, enjoying a large north-facing garden. Conceived as a sustainable kit-home prototype, the design follows a strict mathematic logic in its construction. The sense of beachside calm belies the rigour and precision in the plan.”

Simple lines belie the considered design of this beach house with its seamless integration of indoor and outdoor living. Bundeena House by Tribe Studio.

Modern Tudor style in New York

Posted on Tue, 28 Mar 2023 by KiM

Based in the quaint town of Larchmont, NY, a suburb of Manhattan, this home was built from the ground up in collaboration with DeGraw and Dehaan Architects and Aurora Builders. After much brainstorming and early conceptual meetings, the design team decided a modern interpretation of a Tudor style home felt appropriate for our clients and the surrounding area. Honing in on the use of organic materials blended with a colorful palette, this home is truly a special project that was the result of a concerted collaborative effort between architect, client, builder, and designer.
I am a fan of this mix of light and dark spaces and mostly neutral tones throughout. Cozy, simple and timeless. Designed by Ursino Interiors. Photos: Tim Lenz.

Mid-century Modern

“When Corinne’s client purchased this home, it was untouched besides a thoughtful renovation in 1965 by architect, Gilbert Leong.  The brief given by her design savvy musician client was that he desired the soul of the home to stay intact but wanted the amenities and finishes to be updated.  This project was a true example of how Corinne prefers to approach a renovation; the architecture of the home along with the client’s input guides the creative process.   As a result of this simple brief and a very successful collaboration, this 2900 square foot midcentury home received an extensive and collaborative remodel.”

Lucy Cunningham Interiors

A decorative design studio established in 2014 by Founder and Creative Director, Lucy Cunningham, who lives in the Hampshire countryside with her husband and two sons. Layers of the unexpected set Lucy’s refined English aesthetic apart. The contemporary and the classic are blended seamlessly and skillfully, with longevity rather than passing trends in mind. Greatly skilled with print, which she applies with a peaceful elegance, Lucy draws influence from art, travel, nature and a variety of cultures and eras to inform her vision. Impeccably sourced Ikats, Kantha and Suzanis may be teamed with historically inspired designs, there are no rules. It’s this boundless curiosity and sensitivity that allows her to create beautifully considered homes rich with character and warmth.
This is what I am after – comfort and a vast range of influences that make it a bit unexpected and challenging.

Cheerful and cheeky in Florida

“Discovered through Instagram, we were tasked by our clients to design a home to be the antithesis of a traditional northeast home (where they were moving from). The couple chose to refresh the home, originally built in 1955, as a way to breathe new life—and sneak an extra bedroom—into their space. When it came to the initial mood board, capturing a sense of cheerfulness and familiarity through the use of color was top of mind. With one heading a public art organization, integration of artful interiors and color was paramount. We designed the home with outspoken wallpaper selections and color combos that celebrate life.”

Definitely packing a punch with a riot of colour and bold pattern clash this home in Coral Gables, Florida is by Miami-based design firm Bunsa Studio.
