This house could not be more invigorating and whimsical. It all starts at the apple green front door. Wallpaper and vibrant upholstery and patterns unite to create a super fun home. Her Latin roots, fondness for Southern hospitality, and penchant for parties were the overarching parameters for this gradual home makeover. The kitchen got a major facelift, but the original cabinets were preserved and a few doors removed to showcase her collection of vintage dinnerware and serving pieces. Paisley wallpaper, watercolor print curtains, and lime-painted entryway are evidence of her passion for mixing happy color and bold pattern. The medley of new and salvaged furniture includes a dining table rescued from an abandoned house, an 80s sidebar, the daughter’s handed-down vintage desk and a super-long velvet banquette that turns the sunroom into a hangout. In the master bedroom, refinished finds cozy up to a custom canopy bed with leather inserts. Designed by Toledo Geller.

Emilie Fournet Interiors used some really moody and dramatic colours in this renovated home in Hackney, London. It’s quite an amazing thing, how paint can really elevate a space and help create a mood.

From punching bag to plié

“Here is a room to sweat, stretch, and have some fun! Similar to our own attitudes towards working out, this space approaches exercise with a sense of moderation, ease, humor, and delight. It is designed for the person who wants balance between action and relaxation, and who knows that function and aesthetics can coexist effortlessly. Turn the music on and do what moves you—hit up the boxing bag and go for the burn, or practice your pliés at the ballet bar. After the workout is through, find refuge in the beautiful vintage Wegner chair. Sit back and catch your breath, you are energized and ready for the day.”

We very rarely feature exercise rooms on the blog so when I found this gym/relaxation room by Cass + Nico Studio as part of last year’s San Francisco Decorator Showcase I knew I had to share. I’m loving the hand painted walls.

A colourful apartment in Paris

“This Paris Apartment project was a total restoration. The idea was to focus on the swirl design of the entrance floor and build outwards, stretching the space beyond this initial focal point. Height and curves prevail. Whilst the project was to remain relaxed and comfortable, we introduced curated design design and art pieces. The place feels personal, authentic but quite grandiose in the reception areas.”

It’s as much about bold colour as it is about Parisian chic, personality as it is about style and panache. French finesse by Studio ALM .
