This Charleston, South Carolina Georgian home exudes character the second you walk in the front door. The homeowners (Jordan Kruse and his husband James Hewlette) wanted a ‘masculine southern’ vibe and designer Elly Poston delivered with grasscloth wallpaper, a glossy green bar, lots of blue, and black accents. Such fabulous attention to detail.
Atlanta designer Margaret Kirkland is known for her classic, timeless, elegant interiors. One of her greatest pleasures as a designer is to go hunting in a client’s storage for old treasures that can be repurposed to give them new life, while also bringing the client’s personality directly into the space. The results are sophisticated refuges that imbue their modern comforts with a subtle sense of history and timelessness. Take these spaces and put them in one of the French châteaus I’ve been featuring on Sundays and you have yourself a winner.
Today’s château is located in Caussade (a commune in the district of Montauban, located in the Tarn-et-Garonne department in the Occitanie region in the south of France). A mouthful that makes it sound fancy. And a château needs a fancy location. This 14th century, 5 bedroom, 5 bathroom home on 4.7 acres of land is a stunner with rustic, casual vibes and why I chose it over many of the much more posh/elegant châteaus I found in my search. 3 floors in an L-shape are set around a central stone staircase. A lovely pool is a bonus feature. If only I had €995,000. For sale here.
I continue to be awestruck by the creative genius of Frances Merrill and her firm Reath Design. You will be hard-pressed to find anyone who is willing to go this bold with colour and pattern. Each room is a wilder than the next. SO MUCH FUN! You can read more about it in this Architectural Digest feature. Photos by Laure Joliet.
“Respecting the rich culture and architecture of the building, we seek to restore it’s natural raw beauty, before injecting unexpected moments of contemporary culture, representing the youth of its occupier.”
The designer calls it “Subversive Intervention”. I call this Sydney home by Blainey North luxury with a touch of rebellion.
