What do you get when you mix a grandmillennial sensibility with a riot of colour? Not your grandmother’s parlour that’s for sure. Fresh, fun and packed with personality this Dallas home by Meredith Ellis Design celebrates the past but brings it into the present with relaxed, modern family living.
Black and white with hits of vibrant green , deep blues and powder pink. It’s about the drama of contrast but also a celebration of natural material, of indoor and out, of public and private, of minimalism and exploring the local building vernacular. Most of all it’s about collaboration between Jen Langston and Heather A. Wilson Architect and of course their clients.
It’s the meeting of two halves. It’s traditional and contemporary, country and coastal, colour and pattern, farmhouse and now event and accommodation space. The whole is a country house chock full of personality and style, strong and bold. Greyleigh in Kiama north of Sydney by Duet.

It’s about colour and joy as well as storage and sightlines. This handsome, four-storey Edwardian home exudes comfort and conviviality without compromising on practicality. The ground floor plan was rationalised, storage prioritised with a home for everything and everything in its home as well as lots of opportunities to display the family’s “treasures”. “SWDS was enlisted to create the interiors and exterior living spaces of this brilliant Taalman Koch Architecture project. The steel, glass and concrete home, sits on the side of the mountain overlooking Santa Barbara and the ocean. The clients love to entertain family and friends, and were committed to the ideal of true indoor outdoor living. They also, wanted a warm and rustic feel, rather than the typical austere choices that are typically made with this type of architecture.”
Simply elegant living with a mid century modern vibe. West Mountain by Sarah Walker Design Studio.
