Elegance with colour and pattern

Designer Josh Greene knocked this project out of the park! This was a complete renovation of a full-floor apartment on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. It is loaded with elegance and class which in my humble opinion is hard to pull off when using lots of colours and patterns. I especially love the lacquered cobalt blue walls of the library with the wallpapered ceiling. So dramatic! And must give props to the acid green silk rug in the dining room – what a statement! I am completely smitten with this bold, pattern-happy traditional Spanish finca designed by Matthew Williamson. In 2018 Matthew converted this once derelict house built in 1920 into a luxurious, modern family home with 2 bathrooms, 3 bedrooms, dining and lounge areas. Along with extensive garden and summer room renovations, the home has undergone a radical and stylish transformation.

Imagination

“We were commissioned to design 11 model apartments for a Lower East Side residential building, One Manhattan Square. Each apartment tells the story of the unique characters who might someday inhabit the space. The apartments were transformed from white walled units into richly layered homes that are inviting to a range of potential residents.”

New York designer Anna Karlin transformed once white boxes into richly layered homes. Here are two of the apartments. The first a colourful and richly patterned home full of contrasts and collected objects. The second a welcoming space for friends and family to gather with soft textures and warm hues.

An elegantly whimsical apartment in Milan

London/Milan based designer Nicolo Castellini Baldissera created a colourful cacophony in this Milan apartment. It has a wonderful European, travelled sensibility and all of the beautiful colours on the walls really add life and dimension. (Photos: Guido Taroni)
