A 200 year old farmhouse in Tuscany

Posted on Fri, 5 Nov 2021 by KiM

Looking for a magical getaway? Look what I found! The lovingly preserved, 200 year old farmhouse, is ideally nestled in rural Tuscany overlooking sloping vineyards just a few kms from the village of Montefollonico and the better-known hilltop village of Montepulciano. Surrounded by cypresses, sheep pastures, and olive groves, the once forgotten farmhouse has been beautifully restored by owners Fabio and Suzanne, offering an authentic and relaxed Tuscan experience. The country house has six beautiful suites, re-finished and furnished with unique pieces that reflect the local history and environment. Follonico offers a subdued, pastoral alternative to the vineyard boutiques and touristy guesthouses that dot the region and is the perfect place to slow down, breathe and enjoy the natural rhythms that surround you. The Alsace Hotel

Posted on Wed, 27 Oct 2021 by midcenturyjo

Just the thought of travelling again has me finding the most amazing hotels everywhere (or is that my algorithm?). How about LA’s Hotel Alsace by Home Studios? Mediterranean riffs with natural materials. Think terracotta hues, handmade tiles, rattan and wood, vintage pieces mixed with contemporary furniture. It’s on the bucket list.

Borders are opening and people are starting to travel again. We’re not quite there in Australia yet but we are edging closer. In the meantime I’m daydreaming of a getaway to Poland so I can stay at the mid century meets modern, Soviet Brutalist design era meets Western luxury,  inter-war Polish modernism that is the PURO Hotel in Kraków by Paradowski Studio.

Château de la Bourlie

This stunning 800 year old château is located in the heart of a lush valley in the Dordogne region of South West France has been in the same aristocratic French family since it was built. It can be rented in its entirety or by wing/room at certain times of the year. Château de la Bourlie is currently home to artist Cyril de Commarque and his family, and has been sympathetically renovated – a medieval kitchen was preserved whilst a contemporary kitchen created for the chef. The juxtaposition of old and new here is brilliant.

Sunday camping in Yosemite

Near the Yosemite national park entrance is AutoCamp Yosemite, a really cool setup that includes a mid-century modern clubhouse, a general store, swimming pool, and accommodations that includes Airstreams, luxury tents, basecamps and cabins. This looks like it would be sooooooo much fun to spend a weekend here. Designed by Lauren Geremia.
