Urban classicism in Roman

Posted on Fri, 2 Nov 2018 by midcenturyjo

Stunning! The view and the apartment. But as much as I’m blown away by the history outside the windows it’s the interior that has me swooning. Think classicism meets contemporary values, new and old balanced just so but with a slight misalignment for the brivido, the frisson, the thrill. The beautiful old bones, the stark beauty of the white walls, the bespoke furniture, the light all create this urban classic by Rome-based architect and designer Stefano Dorata.

Citrus Scandi

Take an apartment with amazing bones such as soaring windows, ornate plaster cornices, herringbone floors and Swedish tile stoves. Fill it with the best of contemporary furniture (blonde wood obligatory of course). A monochromatic paint palette would be all  that was needed to achieve the much coveted Scandi style home. But add a slice or two of citrus oomph and it takes it to a whole other level. Talk about zing!!! Gloucestershire Country House

21st century living in an 18th century house. Now that is my kind of luxury. I’m daydreaming about this Georgian-era stone house in the Cotswolds especially the new green oak and glass dining conservatory next to the bespoke kitchen. It’s a marriage of new and old, carefully considered and beautifully curated by interior designer, furniture designer and antiques dealer Charlotte Hughes of Sutton House Interiors. Time for an escape to the country I do believe.

Kitchen love

A beautiful 1900’s sandstone villa in Adelaide has been given a new lease on life by Melbourne-based interior designers Heartly. The new kitchen sits simply within the extension. Practical and family friendly does not preclude the luxury of stone and American oak. A nod to the age of the house is found in the streamlined shaker cabinets and the newly exposed stone. A mudroom and new bathroom complete the renovation.

Schoolhouse Loft

Hello dear owners of this apartment by New York based architecture and interior design practice Space Exploration. I was wondering if you were interested in a house swap? I really, really, really love your home and I’m sure, given time, that you will grow accustomed to mine … I hope. I guess the next best thing would be for the designers could come visit me here in Australia and work their magic on my house. Nope! I just really, really, really want this loft. The light flooding in, the high ceilings, the play of crisp white against honey floors, the textures, the art work, the furniture. I’m packing my bags and boarding the next plane!
