Spring Hill Residence, a heritage-listed home near Brisbane City, underwent a meticulous restoration with interiors driven by Samantha Leigh, reviving its federation-era charm. The design preserves historic elements like pewter and antique brass hardware, arched interiors and seamless transitions between checked marble and timber flooring. Hand-painted joinery, lime plaster walls and a curated mix of vintage and modern furnishings create a rich dialogue between past and present.

Brook Green family house

“A former bedsit, completely overhauled to function as a five bedroom family home across three floors. The client’s brief was ‘relaxed, playful, timeless and colourful’ which could grow as they grew as a family. Working closely with the client, Architect Studio McLeod, and lighting Designer Studio Stileman, we formed a totally new layout which incorporated every functional requirement but with a playful twist.”

Fabulous use of colour, pattern and texture. Layered with antiques and beautiful textiles. A fun, fresh and stylish family home by Natasha Quick.

La Cucina

Inspired by the relaxed elegance of Milan, this inner-city apartment’s kitchen renovation by A.mi reimagines a poorly planned, hidden space dominated by a large structural column. The client’s vision for La Cucina was to create an inviting, theatrical chef’s kitchen that seamlessly connects with the dining area. A striking trumpeted island bench was designed to integrate the column, serving as a central gathering spot where guests can sit, stand and engage with the chef or fellow diners.

A remodeled historic Portland mansion

Posted on Thu, 27 Feb 2025 by KiM

This historic Portland mansion, built in 1912 for Mayor Russell Albee, was put into our care for a lengthy, careful, considered remodel. Some areas, like the kitchen and bathrooms, we remodeled entirely even moving walls to do so, other rooms were carefully preserved and furnished. We worked with Portland mural artists Lonesome Pictopia to decorate the walls throughout, with brass leaf, painted panels, flowery ceilings, and little animals that show up around every corner. The house is filled with art, life, and beauty, and feels both modern and comfortable but also like its beautiful old self.  Oh!  And those yellow and mirrored panels between the breakfast room and the kitchen?  That’s the refrigerator!
Jessica Helgerson creating pure magic in Albee House, with one of the prettiest kitchens I’ve ever seen (she will always rule kitchen design, and so many of her kitchens are in my inspiration folder, including this one). I am in awe of some of the details in this home, particularly the wood and brick that isn’t painted over. Photos: Aaron Leitz.

A postmodern home in Dallas

I adore postmodern design, and I feel like the world could use soooo much more of it. Bold colour choices, geometric patterns, shapely furniture that are often pieces of art themselves….it’s a vibrancy and creativity that really has a wonderful appeal and you can’t help but smile at. Designer Jen Talbot created such a fabulous home here with a more neutral colour palette in the main spaces (the brown and black accents add the pop postmodernism calls for) and then a huge wow factor in the main bedroom and children’s bathroom. The bedroom and ensuite colour palette is spectacular. Photos: Stephen Karlisch.
