You might remember Laurence Simoncini‘s Ile De Ré holiday home. (Here‘s Kim’s post about it.)The perfect exercise in rugged texture and scale. Well welcome to her Parisian warehouse home. Dark, moody and glamorous. Mustards and golds pop against deepest greys and blacks and an oversized gorilla lives in the lush, almost tropical garden. It’s dramatic yet cocooning, a dark oasis full of industrial and vintage touches. Don’t get too settled in though. Sh has moved as you will see in my next post.

Las 2 Mercedes is a Madrid-based interior design studio founded in 2012 by Mercedes Peralta and Mercedes Valdenebro. Their work is all about warmth and timelessness, personality and pizzazz. Think a mix of contemporary design, mid-century furniture and antiques, understated, elegant and serene.

Interior decorators Carlos Rocha and Vítor Duarte of White and Kaki must have reached into my imagination and made my dream of a Portuguese getaway come true. Neutral tones, texture on texture, an earthy sophistication. Throw the doors open to coastal breezes or escape indoors to the cool of stone and plaster. The perfect marriage of its Mediterranean roots, tribal influences and industrial touches. You’ll find me slumped on a white sofa or soaking in the bedroom tub.

A total refurbishment of this central Madrid apartment is all about the art of mixing. Mixing styles, periods, materials and colour.  From the crisp white salon with its mid century vibes and turquoise accents to the earthy wicker of the dining room to the dashes of bold pattern throughout, it’s fresh and fabulous, chic and sharp. El Viso by interior architect Belén Ferrándiz.

We have featured several projects of London-based architecture and design firm LLI Design (here, here, here and here) and they recently sent over photos of one of their recent refurbishment projects. With before and after photos! It is a 3 story Victorian townhouse in Highgate and here are some details: Our clients wanted to create a warm, comfortable home with modern touches. Although the house was in reasonable condition, the joinery and fittings throughout the house were dated, had been well used and looked tired. Many of the period features had been stripped out and those that remained had not been maximised. The house lacked character and personality although it benefited from ‘good bones’, nicely proportioned rooms, a delightful garden and a handsome exterior. The brief was to create a warm, comfortable and welcoming home referencing and emphasising the house’s Victorian past as well as adding more contemporary elements to the scheme. I looooove the result. The attention to detail while maintaining the original character of the home is everything.
