It’s mid week and I’m still craving a getaway. Today I’m dreaming of Hotel San José in Austin, Texas. Concrete floors and minimalist interiors. Funky, cool and comfortable. And oh the lush green surrounds. What more could you want?

Monday means escape day. Run away from the beginning of the work week and dream of faraway places. Enter the dark and moody luxury of the Canal House boutique hotel in Amsterdam’s Jordaan district. Waiting within is a secret green oasis bathed in dappled light. Light and dark, old and new, drawing inspiration from Dutch history and art. Shall we run away to the dark side? Work can wait.

I plan to lose myself in gardening this weekend. I certainly won’t be able to lose myself in the garden. It needs so much work. I drawing inspiration from this casual garden in Ingleside, Sydney by landscape architect, author and TV host Brendan Moar. Casual but carefully planned. Low on maintenance and high on style. Is it wrong to want a fire pit so much more than a barbecue in the land of the shrimp on the barbie? A little bit cottage, a little bit native, a bit shabby chic. Perfect fit for my old house.
