Modernist Italian design meets a listed Victorian building in Notting Hill, London and the result is not a chaotic clash but a beautifully curated, family home by Francesca Oggioni. Key features are the muted palette and natural finishes, the preservation of lovely old features like the stone staircase and the streamlined storage that fades into the spaces allowing that minimalist look devoid of necessary, everyday clutter.

Now that would be an answer I’d love to give. I can just imagine being perched above one of my favourite cities and the space I have in mind would be very much like this loft by Bfs Design. Clean, straight lines, a little concrete soften by walls of warm wood, industrial with a mid century riff and houseplants perched to take over if given half a chance.

The marble bathroom is amazing. The powder room is rich with pinks and reds. The staircase is suitably grand but it’s the dining room that will have you dancing on the ceiling. Talk about packing a design punch! Niederhurst by New York based interior designer Sara Story.

Light reacting with the surfaces of this house just like light bouncing onto clouds, that was the concept behind this house in Sydney’s Bondi Beach. Openings facing east allow sunshine to pour in, while a courtyard at the centre of the two sections of the building increases the flow even more. With the downstairs dedicated to public spaces, including a double height living area, the upper level’s bedrooms, timber batterned for privacy, are accessed by a staircase and walkway beneath a glass skylight. There’s that word again … “light”. It’s what this fabulous contemporary home is all about.  Cloud House, again by Akin Atelier.
