Sophisticated rustic

Posted on Thu, 4 Nov 2021 by midcenturyjo

“Complete rehabilitation project of a house in the mythical town of Pedraza. Maintaining the amazing aesthetic of the place, a large staircase makes its presence at the entrance, becoming the main character of the house. From there, structural elements and rustic furniture, transform the rural house to a place with an industrial touch.”

Sophisticated living in a rustic shell. Gilt and linen, stone and velvet. Contemporary pieces sit with country antiques. The scene is set by Madrid-based Belén Ferrándiz for an elegant country town sojourn.

Another look at Château de Fabrègues

Last year I shared a glimpse of the château/farmhouse of designer Pierre Yovanovitch in Fabrègues, Provence. I came across more photos (by Julien Oppenheim and Jerome Galland) that I thought were a must-share. This home is jaw-droppingly beautiful inside and out and I don’t even know what more to say other than WHAT A DREAM!

I love the juxtaposition of rustic and  modern, of contemporary luxury and almost monastic stone walls. While preserving the old stone house’s character by repairing and maintaining the external walls, the interiors of this country house in Spain’s Galacia is light filled, sleek and modern … well almost. Cottage in Lugo by Ventura.

Pinky’s

“Pinky’s is a reimagined boathouse by Akin Atelier & 360 degrees Landscape Architecture. Located on Gibson’s Beach, Vaucluse, Pinky’s Boathouse was designed as an interior living solution for a family who spend much of their time on the harbour. Using the existing foundations, the interior design intention for the boathouse was to create a space that could adapt to the changing conditions of the harbour.”

It’s a dream surely, a fantasy of mine. A wonderful Sydney harbourside home and to top it off a boathouse or should that be just a little bit more than a boathouse. To me Pinky’s is perfection. Might just move a bed in as well.

Brooklyn-based Home Studios have cleverly updated and refreshed this 3 storey townhouse in Fort Greene for its new owners. The house is all about cooking and entertaining with a fabulous light-filled kitchen that spills into the dining room. For me though the standout is the tiny powder room hiding under the stairs with its Le Corbusier–inspired wall murals. Now where can I try that in my house?
