I’m real estate hunting in the oh so upmarket suburb of Point Piper. Built in 1905, this Edwardian mansion has expansive north easterly views across Point Piper and Rose Bay to Manly. I must admit my favourite luxury indulgence in this house is the master bedroom’s bath perched in its own alcove overlooking Sydney Harbour. The photos don’t do this property justice. Stalking this time in the Melbourne suburb of Albert Park and a development of an old commercial stables building and the Victorian era house at the other end of the block. Between is a modern addition that provides walkways, internal courtyard and kitchen dining with master bedroom above. Take a narrow inner city Sydney terrace house. Strip it to its stone walls and carefully construct a minimalist dream home. A limited colour palette of black and white tempered by sandstone walls and blonde timbers provides the perfect stage for statement furniture pieces and lighting. Bucolic bliss with just the slightest touch of boho in Bedford, NY by Virginia Tupker Interiors. Tupkert, who has worked for House & Garden, Vogue and Vogue Living has a passion for textiles which she uses deftly as a counterfoil to the rustic stone and old boards in this old carriage house. It’s rough yet refined, cosy yet chic. The perfect country getaway without the country kitsch.
