A Brothers Grimm hideaway that seems to sprout from the garden like a limewashed berry, Charlotte’s Folly is a luxury self-catering cottage nestled in 200 acres of Shropshire woodlands. Telling a sweet tale of craftmanship and nostalgia, this terracotta trinket is storybook architecture at its finest, a time-travelling family retreat that could have been lifted from folklore.

I am completely smitten with the beauty of the estate (which includes ‘architectural marvels of Victorian stature’) and that gorgeous kitchen. This prestigious double fronted Art Deco cream brick beacon of casual regality adorns a fancy suburban street in Moonee Ponds. WOWOWA’s role was akin to a surgeon – preforming open heart surgery, removing the scare tissue of the past renovation and creating a family home that celebrated the playful ornament of the original 1930’s era. The first decision was to mirror the cream & brown brick robustness of the front facade, around the back. A sense of inside outside was crucial to this project. Working around existing bones, the renovation addon reads like an L shaped nugget, but in reality, the living room sits on the base of an existing basement and is largely a reduction more than an alteration & addition.

I stumbled upon the San Miguel de Allende home of Jorge Almada and A-M Midy of casamidy as part of a series of properties they own and offer for weekly rentals. Lord have mercy sign me up for a week or 2 here! I still yearn to visit San Miguel one day and this property represents all the good things about that beautiful city – views, character, gorgeous architectural details, unique design, and inviting outdoor spaces.

The property itself was built in 1751 and boasts many original features. The current living space in the chateau consists of 5 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a magnificent entrance hall with original mosaic tiles, a large dining room and sitting room, a library with a vaulted ceiling and a new American kitchen. The real opportunity for the property is with its extensive outbuildings providing an additional 1100m² of space with endless possibilities. Some of the space is currently used as an art gallery and to showcase antiques. There are also stables with 11 horse boxes.
