Scandinavian-style guest house in Poland

Posted on Tue, 7 Feb 2017 by KiM

If modern minimalism is something you’re into, which I am because sometimes I just need something that is easy on the eye, then I think you’ll dig this guest house in Chociwle, Poland designed by Loft Kolasiński. With a Scandinavian, mid-century feel this dwelling is a tad masculine, a touch funky and a smidge hip. What a cool collection of furnishings from the 30’s, 50’s, 60’s and 70’s from Italy, France, the Netherlands, Czech Republic and Poland – including a polish HI-Fi stereo from the 80’s. I want those sofas soooo badly. (Photos: Karolina Bąk

Rancho Mirage

Posted on Tue, 7 Feb 2017 by KiM

A stylish, new mid mod pays homage to the oh so cool Palm Springs vibe. Built on Frank Sinatra’s old estate there’s even a cheeky tribute to ol’ blue eyes himself. I’m seriously envious of this weekend getaway. Would you want to leave? Rancho Mirage by Newport Beach based interior designer Brittany Stiles.

Seaside simplicity

The renovation and reconfiguration of this house in Mas Nou in Spain’s Catalonian region by 05 AM arquitectura was all about opening up the warren of smaller rooms into open-plan living all with access to a stunning sea view through a wall of large windows. Light, bright and spacious with finishes that are perfect for relaxed family living. Seaside simplicity.

Here is Chewie, in chilly Thunder Bay, ON.  Loves the black sheepskin on the Acapulco Chair
– Laura

My friend George has this funny charm. Her name is Tayra and she reminds me white marshmallow)))
– Taneyka (Belarus)

More pets on furniture….essentially I can’t keep them off! This I call Dane Jenga. Finnegan and Pearl. (Both rescues. Because Pearl is deaf and blind, Finnegan is her “assistance dog”. The most patient dog you would ever meet!)
– Linda

Sometimes all you see is a lump or feet sticking out! Faux fur throw providing warmth for Mr Biggles.
– Anna

Big guy is Bodhi, cat is Oliver and little man is Tucker. Bodhi is always available for a snuggle if the little ones get cold.
– Beverly (Houston, TX)

Staying warm on sheepskins from Poland.
On outdoor furniture….
– Jo (Cold Spring, New York)

Happy holidays from Mimi.  She loves to snuggle on the sheepskin on our kitchen banquet.

Just being the queens they are

My house, cats and I in a magazine

Posted on Sun, 5 Feb 2017 by midcenturyjo

This is just a quick post to mention that my house, my cats and myself are in the Interiors 2017 issue of Ottawa magazine out now for your viewing pleasure. I am so honoured to have my home featured locally. I’ve been fortunate to have features in books and mags with my previous home but I this is my first local spread of my home and the first time someone actually had a professional photographer, Marc Fowler in this case, come and shoot it. The experience was a total blast, a lot of hard work but it really paid off in the end. I absolutely love the photos and the article is a total hoot (writer Melanie Scott included some quotes I never dreamed she would use – LOL!). If you’re in the area get yourself a copy – the other homes are reeeeeally good. (If you are not from around here hubby found you can buy it online through PressReader.com)
