Dutch interior designer Robert Kolenik took what he described as a typical small Amsterdam apartment and turned it into a luxurious modern space in neutral tones that appears much larger than it is. As part of his concept, the first thing that interior designer Robert Kolenik did was to design a large wall unit to link together all the spaces in the apartment naturally. In narrower or smaller spaces, most people tend to use smaller pieces of furniture. ‘I do the opposite. By putting in larger pieces, I emphasise a sense of spaciousness in the home. The floating block in dark oak creates a line in the apartment that visually enlarges the space.’ Robert then added in a FOUR METRE LONG sofa (by Minotti) which offers tons of seating and while very long, still keeps the space very open. Those of you with small spaces, take note!

Never enough Black Lacquer

A little black, a little lacquer and some fun punches of colour are what Caitlin Murray is all about. We have featured her work a couple of times in the past (here and here), but there is never enough Black Lacquer 😉

Haus Love – a modern bungalow

I had to share another project by Haus Love because I just cannot get enough. Again you have some dark accents, really gorgeous light fixtures and fun bold artwork. LOVE THIS!!!

I adore this home designed by Heidi Woodman of Haus Love, a shop and design firm located in Indianapolis. Fantastic dark accents throughout against very light backdrops, statement light fixtures and graphic art (love the gallery wall!), all with an ethnic influence. What’s not to love about this? It’s timeless and functional and total eye candy.

Perforated

Internal courtyards and screens allow this home to be open and light filled without sacrificing privacy. Concrete grounds the open plan building providing solidity while walls of glass, slats and perforations allow light to penetrate throughout. Plantings soften and mellow, golden timbers warm.
