A Victorian kitchen

Posted on Thu, 9 Jan 2014 by KiM

Jessica Helgerson is the queen of kitchens, and I had to share yet another one of her amazing kitchen renovations. The kitchen and dining room were remodelled in this old Victorian home in Portland, making a larger, brighter kitchen by using part of a sun porch. It is absolutely beautiful, and so conducive to having large family gatherings where everyone congregates in the kitchen (it’s even houses a sofa in case it wasn’t inviting enough!)

Style Labo

This past Friday my husband and I took a little road trip to Montréal so I could take advantage of some end of season clothing sales (I’ve got some photos of my scores on Instagram or my other blog), and at the end of the trip we stopped at a shop we’ve been scoping out online for a few years but have never managed to visit in person. Style Labo is now our favourite shop of all time. I’m not kidding. We were like kids in a candy store, drooling at every turn. This to-die-for store sells the most incredible vintage industrial finds you can imagine, along with some new items here and there. Lighting, lighting and more lighting (old and new, including my absolute favourite = Jieldé), ottomans/pillows/settees covered in vintage postal sacks of army canvas, lockers, marquee letters, signs etc. etc. I toured every inch of the warehouse space (gorg!!) taking photos while I went. But first, we couldn’t leave without picking up a few little things…

The candle smells SO GOOD and was worth the semi-hefty price because it’s a beautiful porcelain/ceramic vessel I can’t wait to re-use.

My husband saw this massive pillow and immediately said he had to have it. I would have preferred it to be cream coloured instead of blue/grey but hey, we’re trying to make it work on the living room sofa. Super comfy!

And now, welcome to Style Labo!

Haus Bubkevitz

I’m so excited to be back from the holiday break with new posts for 2014!  A new year, a new week and a great escape. An escape from having to going back to work, an escape from an extreme case of Mondayitis. Come with me as we wind our way down a meandering country road on the Island of Rügen in the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania region of Germany. To an old schoolhouse/farmhouse. The old barn and endless fields are all we can see as we enter our holiday home. Modern meets traditional, simple minimalism meets rich maximalist murals. American Gothic? A rabbit in the room? Perhaps a minimalist grey attic space. No TV, no internet, no worries. Haus Bubkevitz.

Bah humbug round 3

I woke up early with the birds. Hit the shops to replace the Christmas food I bought a few days ago and that we have already eaten. Why is holiday food so delicious? And the cherries this year! AMAZING! Instead of starting the cooking and perhaps some last minute christmas decoration wrangling I’m dragging furniture around the house. So this is a round about way to say I haven’t a second post prepared for you today. I’m lazy and just popping up some of my Instagram shots. Better go. I have so much to do… hmmm… I think I like that cupboard in the dining room… hmmm… maybe back in hallway. Honey can you give me a hand?

Hello I love you

You know when you see a photograph that stops you in your tracks? You know when you just want to crawl through the computer screen to be in that photograph? You know when you just love what you see? Then you know how I feel about these beautiful shots. By photographer Siren Lauvdal for Elle Decoration.
