Pascali/Semerdjian Arquitetura

Posted on Fri, 20 Dec 2013 by KiM

I have more fabulous spaces for you from Brazil – this time it’s architecture firm Pascali/Semerdjian Arquitetura. I’m totally getting window envy, and now dreaming of grass and green things, and having a fireplace again (had one in my last house, miss it dearly). And check out the little “star” lights in the second last photo. So pretty!

Simon Bajada encore

Photographer Simon Bajada‘s photos are a dream. I featured his work back in July and felt the need for a second dose. Such beautiful spaces, and captured perfectly with light and shadows battling it out for the viewer’s attention.

Residência Maranhão

Mauricio Arruda is a freaking genius. His designs (that we’ve featured often) are always fun, quirky, modern, and creative, and full of energy. This home is a 200 sq m apartment built in the 50s that had never been renovated. Most of the walls were torn down, and materials such as stone, concrete and wood added. Lots of cool furnishings were added, including some of Mauricio’s designs such as the lighting in the corner of the living room and the TV and bedside cabinets.

The old vicarage

“Tom just shook his head when I painted the entry hall. The kids tell everyone mummy ran out of purple paint. It’s not purple by the way. It’s Evening Shadow.” I’d barely crossed the threshold and I knew I was going to like her. “Come into the kitchen. Don’t mind the mess.” If she only knew what my kitchen looked like! I could hear small feet thumping up the stairs and stomping across the floor above. “Don’t worry. They’re just acting out because I told them to be good while you were here. They’ll be down and sweat as pie when they know there is cake.” She turned around and smiled, placing a slightly lopsided carrot cake on the table. “How long have you lived here?” I asked. “Feels like forever. It’s only been three years. Tea?”

Making up stories again to match this wonderful old vicarage from jj LOCATIONS.

A new/old home in LA

Posted on Fri, 13 Dec 2013 by KiM

Hunter Kenihan of design/build firm Indian Summer Investments wrote us to share a recently completed project in the hills of Silver Lake (Los Angeles) where he took a house from the 1920’s down to the studs and rebuilt/expanded and modernized it. Unfortunately he didn’t send before photos but WOW is this a beautiful home! Everything has been updated. I especially love the kitchen – the mix of reclaimed wood and blue cabinets, along with gorgeous dark hardware and subway tiles. YUM! It’s perfectly staged (and photographed) to sell – if it hasn’t already. 🙂
