Chris Barrett and Wellesley Avenue

Posted on Wed, 10 Apr 2013 by midcenturyjo

I loved the last home by Californian interior designer Chris Barrett that I had to visit her portfolio again. Another stylish dwelling but with more of a mix of history and layers of living, the travelled life, a smidgen of boho, an artistic eye and a collection of precious objects gathered over a life well lived. Perfect recipe for a lovely home I think.

Alexander James. Photographer from London. Light and shadows, creating captivating eye candy. It is as simple as that, really.

Perched high on a ridge with views to infinity this three storey home in Fresnaye, Cape Town by SAOTA – Stefan Antoni Olmesdahl Truen Architects takes advantage of a difficult steep site. Balancing concrete, glass and granite on columns that dig deep into the ground, the architects have opened the building’s face to that amazing vista. Such solidity balanced by a desire to run, jump and fly away into the blue.

The Ottawa Antique Show

Posted on Sun, 7 Apr 2013 by KiM

I had a blast at the Ottawa Antique Show – twice! I went Friday afternoon and spent about 2.5 hours tagging all of my favourite items while snapping photos, and then when it opened my husband and I went wandering around again. He bought me an old leather doctor’s bag (check it out on my page) and I bought a gorgeous modernist necklace by Robert Larin. We returned yesterday morning with my family for a fun outing together – my husband picked up a few silly things when I wasn’t watching (LOL) and I snagged some more modernist jewelry (slight obsession). You can see my jewelry purchases over on the mourning cloak. Unfortunately I didn’t pick up anything for the house because I simply have no room for anything new. 🙁 P.S. Today is the last day of the show!

Here are a whole bunch of photos I took on Friday. Photos 3-7 are from my favourite booth which is also where I picked up the jewelry. It’s Samantha Howard Vintage from Toronto. Samantha and her modernist jewelry and mid-century ceramics were awesome and I am a new huge fan.

Antique, vintage, thrift…

Posted on Fri, 5 Apr 2013 by KiM

The Ottawa Antique Show starts today (WOHOO!!!) and I’ll be heading over later this afternoon to devour every square inch before it opens as the lovely organizers have asked me to put a badge on all of my favourite items. SO FUN!!! I’ll try and remember to snap some photos of the goodies too. I’ll hope to be around for the opening, and I’ll be heading back tomorrow with a bunch of my family in the hopes I can convince them to buy some cool vintage pieces! There’s nothing like the thrill of the hunt when going to shows like this or thrift and antique shops and flea markets. And as I always say, there’s nothing like mixing vintage finds with modern pieces for that unexpected juxtaposition of eras and styles. Totally my bag. So in honour of the show I went through some of my photo stash and found photos of spaces with vintage pieces that I love. Enjoy, happy Friday, and those of you in O-town, come on out to the show!
