Stalking a warehouse apartment

Posted on Mon, 2 Oct 2017 by midcenturyjo

You can’t get much closer to Sydney’s CBD than Darlinghurst and That’s where I’m stalking today. This is a suburb for the the über cool urbanites and those with deep pockets and I’ve found them the perfect apartment. No cookie cutter, slap dash, throw it up quick developer’s “dream”. There’s nothing mass produced about the layout and the materials. I’m loving the kitchen and the master bedroom. You?  Link here while it lasts.

Stalking in London

Posted on Thu, 28 Sep 2017 by midcenturyjo

It’s 40℃ in my part of the world today (that’s actual not “feels like”) and I’m starting to think I need to move somewhere else, somewhere cooler (temperature) but definitely hotter (style). How about a 5 bedroom home in London’s W10 area? “Embracing a look rooted in tradition, the interiors of this chic five-bedroom home also draw on eclectic, contemporary design to stunning effect. Grand proportions provide the perfect stage to showcase bold colours, ornate wallpapers and statement art.” Yes please. I would love to be soaking in that tub in the colourful bathroom right now instead of sweating in today’s outrageous heat. Only one problem. The price… £3,950,000. Link here via Domus Nova.

What is not to love about this house???!! You have some original features like these crazy huge glass door/window situations, moldings and panelling, then add in a couple of hidden doors (!!!!!), a beautiful kitchen, what looks like Dinesen wood floors and a bathroom wrapped in marble. DYING!!! Another project in London by Undercover Architecture

I wanted to add a couple of before photos so you can see the extent of this renovation. There are many more on Undercover’s website.

Monastic modern by Ty Larkins

Posted on Tue, 26 Sep 2017 by KiM

This beautiful home designed by Ty Larkins is glorious in all its shades of white with black and neutral accents. Earthy yet modern. Monastic modern as Ty calls it. The basic DNA of this “Belgium style” embraces spareness and natural light, judiciously excludes superfluous details, but retains the use of honest yet substantial building materials, some re-salvaged, seemingly to provide warmth, age and patina but in the context of a clean, pared down shell, a very careful balancing act to say the least. In an effort to balance our all of the newness of this newly constructed home and suggest patina and history, enormous 200-year old plus re-salvaged beams were installed on the 14′ tall ceilings in the family room and lightly white-washed to slightly modernize their inherent rusticity.

A 19th century restored home in London

Posted on Tue, 26 Sep 2017 by KiM

Mornington Terrace is a 19th century, 5 bedroom period home in London that has been sympathetically restored by Undercover Architecture. The house hosts many experimental pieces of joinery, fixtures, lighting, sanitaryware, glazing and furniture. These were exclusively designed and built by Undercover Architecture and partnering artisans, sculptors, and makers. A stunning mix of original architectural details with modern furnishings and painted details. I love how shades of blue were used throughout the house for continuity. Currently for sale via The Modern House. (Interior design by Estelle Chandresinghe).
