You’ll find me on the couch …

Posted on Tue, 28 Dec 2010 by midcenturyjo

Lounging on Le Bambole by Mario Bellini for B&B Italia. This has to be my favourite room of the year. I love this apartment photographed by Frederik Vercruysse. (More of this fabulous home here.) I have a daydream where I stumble upon a vintage leather Le Bambole in a secondhand shop where the owner thinks it is just a beaten up oversized beanbag. Every bone in my body is aching today from planting out the garden in the rain and finishing painting my fireplace in the room that the painters ruined. It is my last day before I go back to work and so I’m taking the blog day off to daydream about a couch…. my daydream might just include some special accessories. Stick around. Kim has a drool worthy post coming up later.

P.S. So are you a vintage leather le Bambole or does the re-release in white cotton do it for you?

Monday’s pets on furniture – part 2

Posted on Mon, 27 Dec 2010 by KiM

If you’d like to send us photos to include in next week’s “pets on furniture” post, please ensure your photos follow our basic rules: First, the pet must be on a piece of furniture. And said piece of furniture must be clearly visible in the photo, so it takes center stage rather than your pet. (Think of it more of a photo of a great piece of furniture that you want to show off…and your pet happens to be sitting on it). And second, the photo must be of decent quality. If it’s dark or fuzzy (from a camera phone) then it may not make the cut. Thanks! (Photos, your name, location and a brief description can be sent to desiretoinspirekim@hotmail.com and PLEASE don’t send me closeups of your pet!)

Here is Manu, my little chihuahua, hanging out on my bed waiting for the photo shoot to be over.
– Angelina (Lititz, PA)

Murphy, my Pug x Labrador (I know, bizarre!) LOVES being comfy and lazing about on our furniture. She has decided to claim our tweed couch as her own.
– Pia

my name: julie belfer, from brazil
pet’s name: waldo, from greece
we just love our ikea poang…

Our sweet dobermans snuggling on the couch-don’t they look festive in their red sweaters?
My doberman, Trinka, snuggling on a blankie on the couch.
The puffball, Jade, perching on a familyroom chair.

– Megan (St. Louis, MO)

Brady & Cali snuggling on all 5 of our pets’ favorite chair 🙂
– Melissa

Lola, Olive, & Boom Boom taking over the couch. Who could argue though?
– Daren (Oakland, CA)

Well, it’s not so much pets ON furniture as it us pets UNDER furniture. Our rescue mixed breed puppies Daisy and Bella (left and center) playing with their new big brother Buddy underneath our Bo Concept bed. We came in from another room to find only tails greeting us.
– Corey (Austin, TX)

My photo shows Tunis, a Parisien, female cat. I was babysitting her during a hot summer in Paris last year. She was obviously bored with my company.
Karin

Our leather love seat is Madison’s favorite place to really crash out. She is sound asleep here. Madison, a Giant Schnauzer, makes the sofa look small, with her huge stretched-out frame tucked in with her messy blankets and pillows.
– Anne (Fort Lauderdale, Florida)

Aaarrrggghhh! It’s raining. Not just today. Not just yesterday, not just last week. For as long as I can remember? It’s flooding all over the state and there are more days of incessant rain to come. I guess there is nothing to do but blog surf. Some of these I have visited forever and others are brand new to me but all will keep you entertained. Go say hello!

Boxing Day reading guide

Posted on Sun, 26 Dec 2010 by midcenturyjo

Thank goodness that is over! I think I ate too much. Hope you had a wonderful day with family and friends, a good nap on the sofa, didn’t eat too much like I did (ha!) and are all relaxed and ready for a reading guide. Settle in. I hear ginger tea is good for over-indulging so maybe a pot to keep you company? Enjoy! (Knitted nativity scene via Scott Weston… rolls off the tongue doesn’t it? “Knitted nativity.”)

Merry Christmas!

Posted on Sat, 25 Dec 2010 by midcenturyjo

Kim and I are so fortunate. Everyday we turn on our computers and do what we love. We share the beauty that we find out there on the web. Beautiful rooms, beautiful homes and in return we have met beautiful people. Dear readers thank you so much for visiting everyday, for your emails, your submissions and your support. To the talented designers, architects, stylists and photographers who share their work a huge thank you. We are in awe of what you create. I wish that was my Christmas tree above but it belongs to Australian architect Scott Weston. (Thanks for the shot Scott and the new work I’ll be featuring next week.)  I ran out of time this year to decorate for the holidays but I can daydream that Scott’s tree miraculously appears in my living room.

I couldn’t make up my mind which image to use for this post. Swedish stylist Mikael Beckman sent this photo of his tree. Outdoors, deep in snow and stylishly simple. I’m daydreaming of this tree too but not miraculously transported into my living room… at least not with the snow. Now if you are reading this on Christmas Day go away, eat turkey, ham or prawns, laugh with your family and nap on the sofa after too much food. I’ll be back on Boxing Day with a reading guide. Might even do one on the other days too. Maybe not. Might be snoozing on that sofa. Merry Christmas!!!

See what Santa got for me (OK I fess up it was I!) on my page. Trouble is they won’t be turning up until after the weekend. Too big to come down the chimney?
