Keeping things simple on this Friday, the beginning of Victoria Day long weekend here in Canada, otherwise known as May 2-4 weekend (because many cases of 24 beers are consumed on this first holiday of summery weather…I on the other hand may find myself a weekend cocktail to consume copious amounts of). Plus the Ottawa Senators are kicking some Pittsburgh ass in the Stanley Cup playoffs so much partying will be had around here. And exciting stuff continues as husband and I are meeting with a designer from Lyndsay Landscape Saturday to do some planning for our horrendously embarrassing gravel pit of a front yard (we live on a very busy street and I die a slow death every day my yard looks this awful). Starting things off with some soothing eye candy in the form of this 3-room apartment currently for sale in Östermalm, Stockholm via Lagerlings. Loving the neutral colour palette and those furry dining chairs!

I couldn’t think of anything better. A fine old home, originally designed by 1930s society architect Marcus Martin, beautifully renovated and extended by Melbourne-based Powell & Glenn. The best of both worlds. Deco bones and modern living filled with artwork and iconic furniture pieces.

This renovated 3 bedroom apartment in Sydney, Australia is sleek and modern with a black and white colour scheme. This combination makes for a very chic and dramatic pad. The open concept space is punctuated with a kitchen design that I absolutely love – as much as I love a fabulous kitchen, it’s even more fabuolus when it doesn’t really look like a kitchen at first glance (I thought it was a dressing room!). With a spiral staircase wraps its way upwards like a snake coiling languidly this NYC apartment is seriously sexy. Let’s add a third “S” – subtle. The luxury level is high and there are certainly touches of bling but it’s pared back, restrained. I love this look. I’m not quite sure what to call it though. It’s a definite reference to the 80s in its materials and shapes with a watered down colour palette of that decade’s greys and pinks. Like the 80s with a really good IG filter. Then there are hints of Art Deco and mid century. Definitely my new design style crush by Michelle Gerson Interiors.

Charming, polished, refreshing, energetic, casual, lasting….these are just a few words I would use to describe the style of New York based designer Matthew Cane.
