Old-world elegance meets vintage in Madrid

Posted on Sun, 23 Apr 2017 by KiM

I am completely in love with this renovated 19th century apartment in Madrid. The original architectural details including exposed beams and brickwork alone have me about to pass out, let alone the fact that this space is furnished with a wonderful random assortment of antique/vintage pieces. That chandelier over the dining table is especially scrumptious. Ana Cabellos and Elisa Fernández of La Traviesa de Conde Duque worked some magic here. Via Nuevo Estilo.

Carroll Gardens by Tamara Eaton

NYC based designer Tamara Eaton does not follow trends so her interiors are often eclectic and unexpected. This home with its traditional details in a loft-like setting is unpredictable, but then add in Tamara’s unique assortment of styles in the decor and you have something that is whimsical yet sophisticated.

A converted Victorian school

Every once in a while I feature a home that I completely lust over and spend hours redecorating it in my head, and this is one of those. St. Oswald’s Place is located in an 1861 converted Victorian school building that was designed by architect Tony Fretton. Approached through a gated arch and across a cobbled courtyard, the house is set back from the road in a secluded pocket backed by Vauxhall City Farm. Entry is through a glass-roofed extension, which connects the main space with a guest annexe/study positioned around a cobbled courtyard garden. The living room is a beautifully curated space with soaring double-height ceiling and towering original windows. A large internal window looks into the mezzanine level above, which has two bedrooms and a Jack-and-Jill bathroom. Behind the chimney stack, with its open fireplace, is the galley kitchen with windows that look over the front courtyard. A short corridor beneath the mezzanine leads to a second double-height space of similar proportions and exceptional levels of natural light. A glazed door leads to a verdant communal courtyard, shared by the six flats in the building. Currently for sale for £2.4 via The Modern House

Dan Davis Design encore

It really can’t be almost ten years since Kim first featured the work of interior designer Dan Davis. When he emailed recently to remind us of how much time had passed (thanks Dan!) we couldn’t wait to see what he had been up to since then. We weren’t disappointed. His portfolio ranges from transitional to contemporary, mid century modern to eclectic all with his distinct creative touch. Here are just a few of my favourites from the new work he shared with us.

Showhouse dreams

Posted on Thu, 20 Apr 2017 by midcenturyjo

We all know that a showhouse is the platform to display an interior designer’s talents, to flaunt a fantasy, to revel in their design dream. I’m just going to spend some time today entertaining a few close friends in this gorgeous sitting room by Westbrook Interiors. In my dreams at least.
