Maina

A fantasy getaway destination. An 18th century tower house perched high on the slopes of Exo Nyfi, an ancient village in the south Peloponnese in Greece. Towers and castles and stone and views forever. Think modern minimalism meets rustic idyll. Rough luxe rules. Available for holiday let. Maina via Urlaubs Architektur.

Wendy Labrum

The focus of Chicago-based interior designer Wendy Labrum is on creating spaces that evoke a sense of timelessness by combining elements from various periods – a way of learning from the past with a view towards the future. As a mother of two young children, she also believes in developing intelligent interiors that enhance the way families utilize their homes without sacrificing the elements that inspire. Fundamental to her design approach is a belief that a home is the backdrop for our most precious memories. As such, designing them is not an “off the shelf” endeavor, but rather an individualized process resulting in one-of-a-kind environments. Living spaces should be curated, not installed. In the end her spaces are elegant and chic, yet liveable and lasting. I could not help but notice brass accents in just about every room – brass makes everything better (and more glam) IMHO.

Missing Wilma. Here she was on our sofa when she was healthy.

This is Tootsie, a Mini Australian Shepherd who just turned one. Her favourite spot in the whole house is sitting on the bay window in our living room, looking outdoors – but every now and then she comes down and snuggles on our Ikea couch.

My sister Jen (not the twin, the other one) finally took some phtoos off her memory card of her cats to send me. Her cats are both pretty special. Minnie the tabby was rescued from Taiwan by Jen’s friend when she was there teaching English. Then there is Carl, a Himalayan who was rescued from the veterinarian hospital where our cousin worked. He had some bowel issues and Carl’s owners gave up after about $2K trying to find a “cure” and asked for him to be euthanized. The vet intead asked them to sign the cat’s ownership over to them and he lived in the office for amonth until they finally nursed him back to health. My sister offered to take him and he is the most beautiful cat I have ever seen.

Here is Oliver, hanging out on my Herman Miller chair, arms stretched out, peering out the window.

Ssshhh …

Posted on Mon, 2 Nov 2015 by midcenturyjo

It’s quiet here. The kids and their dad are off doing those weekend autumn sports that guarantee muddy boot prints on old tiles on return. The light is soft and the peace is palpable. The tick tock of a mantle clock, the crack of well seasoned log in the fireplace. I’ve been tinkering with recipe books and pots and pans but my hearts not in it. Instead I think I’ll nestle in with those magazines I haven’t had a chance to read. Ssshhh… I’m daydreaming. This is my country house. A Grade II listed 17th Century farmhouse with Victorian editions in Hertfordshire, England via jj Locations. Don’t you know that everything old is new again?
