A little happy for your Friday

Posted on Fri, 5 Feb 2010 by KiM

As usual, it’s freezing here in Ottawa and I have just about HAD IT with winter. I thankfully decided to take a little 10 day trip to Puerto Vallarta at the end of the month to meet up with my folks who are there for 6 weeks. While I’m on that topic, if anyone happens to know of any interesting shops that sell decor items or architecture I should photograph (I’m bringing all my camera gear) in PV PLEASE email or leave a comment. Unlike my other visits there, this time around I’d like to do something besides laying around the pools (although I still plan to do ALOT of that).
Back to the real reason for this post. I found these adorable little cabins in Stuart McIntyre’s portfolio when I was working on yesterday’s post of his work. Grass, flowers…..I almost forget what summer feels like.

Jaw-dropping, awe-inspiring, mind-blowing…anyone with even the slightest appreciation for interior photography will likely use these adjectives when they see the photos below of Danish photographer Stuart McIntyre. His photography has me so mesmerized I may have to do an encore tomorrow. 🙂

Dining in the kitchen

Posted on Wed, 3 Feb 2010 by KiM

Stacy emailed us recently asking for some inspiration for her sis: “We live in a very expensive “city” in the US, full of retirees, so the only affordable houses are either falling apart or brand new cookie cutter subdivision types. My sister and her husband are in the process of buying a new house and have chosen the new option. The kitchen, of course, consists of an L shape…counters, cooktop, fridge, sink, dishwasher etc with no island or even room for one. I was wondering if you have a collection of rooms where the eating table is inside the kitchen? I would like to show her how she can make it look less boring in there.” Hopefully the following photos of small-ish kitchens with mini dining areas will help Stacy’s sister spice up her blah kitchen.

SHH

David Spence, Graham Harris and Neil Hogan form the London-based firm SHH that dabbles in architecture, interior design and branding. They are multi-disciplinary in every sense – including their style. Whether it be rooms bathed in white (my fav of their portfolio), traditional or funky and a bit out-there, they just seem to have alot of fun and enjoy what they do. (And I crave a massive media room like the one in photo 10).

Monday’s pets on furniture – part 2

Posted on Mon, 1 Feb 2010 by KiM

If you’d like to send us photos to include in next week’s “pets on furniture” post, please ensure your photos follow our basic rules: First, the pet must be on a piece of furniture. And said piece of furniture must be clearly visible in the photo, so it takes center stage rather than your pet. (Think of it more of a photo of a great piece of furniture…and your pet happens to be sitting on it). And second, the photo must be of decent quality. If it’s REALLY dark or fuzzy (from a camera phone) then it may not make the cut. Thanks! (Photos can be sent to desiretoinspirekim[@]hotmail[.]com and please don’t just send me closeups of your pet!!!)

Cindy is the dog of my niece. She spends a few days holiday in my house and took the opportunity to relax on the couch.

Meet Austin Mini-Cooper,  our “Office Mascot” & guard dog at CCS Architecture, a boutique architectural firm in San Francisco. After a long day at the office, Austin reminds us all how important it is to relax.

This is my nephew, Bocifery (Bo for short).  He loves laying on the arms of the couch and chair and he looks soooo cute doing it!

I was taking pics of my Dog Chuy for my blog- but he doesn’t like that, and he will make faces at me to make me stop. He’s 13 now, and he’s been doing for years. The chair was an auction find for 7 bucks.  He likes it because of the southern exposure.

We ( my wife Wendy and I) live in a two bedroom apartment in Mascot, Sydney. We live there with Molly. Molly is a maltese and is eight years old next week.  From ‘her’ spot on the bed, we can watch as we go about the house hold chores. Along the way we’ve learnt that It’s one thing to have nice home but what really makes it special is the people and the pets that live there. They give it is essential quality – life. A quality no amount of decorating can improve upon.

Here is a picture of my cat “Mignonne” (French for cute/sweet little thing) sitting on her favorite IKEA Poang chair.  She has claimed that chair to be hers ever since the furniture arrived.

Here two pictures of our dog – Mona. She loves this spot in the sun…
– Gal

This is our labrachowchow mix Paulie, or Miss P. She refused to turn around for the picture…might miss something : )
– Emily

This is my dog Stacy, she is a staffordshire terrior/husky mix and this is her favorite spot in the house besides our bed.

This little Abbey on our sofa, which has been deemed hers since we no longer really use it anymore. Abbey used to weigh 130 lbs when we adopted her and probably could not have climbed up on this sofa 2 years ago! We love her so much! (We believe her old owners kept her in one room with a consistently full bowl. She has lost a total of 57 pounds and is a happy, healthy baby now :))

That’s Monalisa, one of my 4 persian cats!

This is LuLu The Cat , Patches our beagle and Charlie our terrier mix. We adopted all our pets through our local shelter. One exception was LuLu my husband and daughter found her in the middle of the street at just  four weeks.
