Soft colours and patterns in a Cotswold house

Posted on Mon, 13 Jun 2022 by KiM

I had to share another pretty as a peach home designed by Sarah Vanrenen. Soft greens and blues and yellows, and abundance of patterns – all so welcoming.

In the Nièvre, on the edge of the Morvan, viewed from above, the castle appears to be an island of white towers set in an abundance of greenery and foliage. It is located within a 2 hour drive of Paris. The estate was first mentioned in the archives in 1173. Its origins probably date back to the 11th century and is located on 14 hectares. The 14th and 15th century castle consists of a quadrangular enclosure flanked by towers topped with pepper pot roofs. The gunports and the thickness of the walls on the south side recall its defensive function. The castle has 7 bedrooms and is 300 m2. The outbuildings consist of boiler room, a woodshed, a sheep barn and various sheds. The landscape has fountains, ponds and moats, wooded areas, wetlands and a swimming pool. For sale via Patrice Besse for 2 400 000 €. This might be my favourite castle I have featured to date. The simplicity of the exterior is what really does it for me.

There is a lot of modern farmhouse style homes making the rounds these days, but this approach with a bit of a minimalism and edginess is doing it for me. Designed by Annie Brahler of EuroTrash.

An 1860s townhouse in Philadelphia

Posted on Thu, 9 Jun 2022 by KiM

This townhouse was originally built in the 1860s in the early neoclassical style, with many handsome details from that period still present. But it also possesses layers of changes and additions completed by the many generations that have passed through. The 1900s saw the addition of a classic paneled library and incorporation of reclaimed 18th-century Georgian mantels and windows, reflecting the period’s pervasive Colonial Revival taste. The 1930s brought an atrium of coral stone. Later owners loosely divided the building into apartments and offices. The transformation of this elegant home back in to the stately beauty it was meant to be was by Jayne Design Studio in 2002. The solarium is blowing my mind. WOW!!!

Blues and greens in a San Francisco Victorian

Posted on Tue, 7 Jun 2022 by KiM

This San Francisco Victorian had a prior life as a somewhat neglected rental unit. Our clients felt compelled to rescue it and make it their Bay Area home base. We were fortunate enough to be asked to collaborate on this project, giving the space new life. Upgrades in the spaces were a must. However, all changes were done with thoughtfulness and with an eye towards not only practical changes, but ensuring a dusting of design magic throughout this new home. Forgoing neutral colors, we went bold and bright throughout. I really love the shades of blue and green and fun wallpapers and tile used in this home designed by Banner Day Interiors.
