The Emerald

Posted on Mon, 8 Oct 2018 by KiM

The Emerald is an Art Nouveau house in the centre of Prague consisting of 13 flats designed in 5 different styles, that are available for short term rentals. The old world feel in these spaces is absolutely magical, and the textured walls are like works of art. How I would love to visit Prague and stay in such a beautiful environment. (Thank you again Bára!)

The look she gives me when I’m leaving for work on a Saturday.💗🐶 . If you saw my story yesterday then you saw this gorgeous rattan and cane loveseat that I saw for sale but passed up because we simply don’t have room for it. It took all my powers of restraint but I’m pretty proud of myself. . This small victory represents something so much larger. . Today I’m lifting the veil on a bit of shame I carry around. . I’ve lived most of my adult life in debt. I’m a reformed shopaholic and have always indulged my whims—clothes, home furnishings, life experiences. If I wanted it, I got it. And when you get deep enough into debt (like over your head) your mindset becomes—“what’s one more thing, I’m so in debt anyway 🤷🏻‍♀️” . So imagine when I stumbled into this Instagram world of perfection. Well then I just had to find new goodies to change things up and sometimes it was cloaked in —“got this at a thrift store and it didn’t cost all that much so it’s no big deal”. Or I was given products to promote for a small business. . Before I knew it, we were swimming in stuff. . And some of you have been following for awhile and know that I’ve been cleaning out and purging. Learning to live with enough is the new way of being satisfied. So I window shop. And the rattan beauty was a fun moment to marvel at. . And while our home will never be the poster child of #lagom —that is my new guiding force. . What is your small victory? I’d love to cheer you on! . . . . . . . #stellarspaces #sadieslovelylife #apartmenttherapy #howyouhome #designsponge #sodomino #houseplantsofinstagram #urbanjunglebloggers #calivibes #surfshack #inmydomaine #myinterior #elledecor #interior4you1 #bohemianstyle #bohemiandecor #myhousebeautiful #mybhg #hgtvhome #jungalowstyle #thenewbohemians #ggathome #anthropologiehome #anthrohome #mywestelm #nationaldogday #dogsofinstagram #iplanteven

It's been really hard not to post like 15 shots of the bedroom this week 😂🙈 but I can't help sharing this one because well, Quito – as usual – sort of steals the show here ❤️🐶❤️. Of course, one of my favourite aspects of this new design is the @madedotcom bed 😍- I adore it and I'm going to be sharing loads of my favourites from their website tomorrow on the blog! It's definitely become one of my favourite spots for affordable design over the last couple of years 💕In the meantime, if you haven't yet seen the bedroom makeover then you can click on the link in my profile and this image to be taken straight to the post! #sp . . . https://www.swoonworthy.co.uk/2018/08/jungle-glam-bedroom-makeover.html/ . . . #swoonworthy #bedroom #bedroomdesign #beforeandafter #bedroominspo #bedroomgoals #bohoglam #glamourous #interiordesign #interiordesignideas #designsponge #interiorboom #styleithappy #livefabulousandfearless #luxuryinteriorsonabudget #howyouhome #suyhome #lonnyliving #ihavethisthingwithpink #abmlifeiscolorful #eclecticdecor

Imagine being THIS good at modelling but never getting paid for it!? Though imagine an Italian greyhound on the Kleenex ads – he’d have stuck his little needle feet through the toilet paper instantly and then sat quivering in fear when the toilet roll rolled away. They’re basically the Edward Scissorhands (also an unemployable model) of the dog world, minus the ability to make beautiful ice sculptures. Gosh I love Edward Scissorhands, and dogs. Happy Friday everyone! . . . . #colourmyhome #bhghome #moreismoredecor #walltowallstyle #dspets #thenewbohemians #mycovetedhome #thriftedhome #dtipetsonfurniture #thisiswhyihavetothriftshopeveryday #flashesofdelight #cosyupyourworld #showusyourhygge #howwedwell #mycreativeinterior #myvintageabode #allthingsmetric #myinteriorvibe #pocketofmyhome #myhomevibe #eclectichomemix #mystylishspace #eclecticstyle #apartmenttherapy #styleithappy #stellarspaces #interiormilk

I would like to share with you the last photo I took my old friend Diesel. She is about to turn 12 and as an old lady she enjoys very much her nap on our Eames lounge chair. Look how peaceful she looks 😉
Carmen (Salamanca, Spain)

It’s taken me ages to get a good picture of our other cat, Margaux, for Pets on Furniture. Margaux doesn’t hang out on the furniture as much as Pinot. Probably because she likes to sleep on the cable box in the TV room/den, which is always warm. But here’s Margaux in the master bedroom on the wicker chair. She waits here in the morning sometimes while I am getting ready.

And some from me. Bernie napping on the cat sofa (they’re on it WAY more than me) and Phoebe hanging out in the Tuft & Paw cat bed.

A colourful Hackney Victorian

Posted on Sun, 7 Oct 2018 by KiM

I don’t know that I would ever want to surround myself with lots of bold colours and a really maximalist way of decorating but that doesn’t stop me from grinning ear to ear when I spot a home like this. This wild coloured and vintage-to-the-rafters Victorian home in Hackney may not be for everyone, but it sure is cheerful! Via jj Locations.

Casa Payesa

Now that summer is over and I am in a fall depression, I think it is the perfect time to start thinking about warmer climates. Like that of Ibiza. This home of interior designer Virginia Nieto is bringing home the Mediterranean vibe with bright white walls, concrete floors, straw mats and light fixtures and a to-die-for outdoor space. Wow do I ever love this house!!!

New books from Vendome Press – part 2

Posted on Thu, 4 Oct 2018 by KiM

MORE BOOKS!!! I will admit I have another favourite of the books that were recently sent to me from the folks at Vendome Press. It is City of Angels: Houses and Gardens of Los Angeles by Firooz Zahedi and Jennifer Ash Rudick.

This book is total eye candy at its finest. If you are a lover of art you especially need to get online and order a copy immediately. The best part about this book is that many of these homes I had never seen before. They belong to an eclectic mix of film producers, artists, photographers, architects, interior designers, musicians and were designed by the likes of Frank Lloyd Wright, Peter Dunham, David Netto, Madeline Stuart, Mark D. Sikes and many more. Kelly Wearstler’s Malibu beach house, Hutton Wilkinson’s Santa Monica ranch, Pamela Shamshiri’s MCM Schindler house…the dreamiest of homes that include the most incrediblly eclectic art and furniture I have ever seen.

Next up is Inspired Design: The 100 Most Important Interior Designers of the Past 100 Years by Jennifer Boles (of The Peak of Chic blog). Every one interested in interior design should scoop this one up. It’s like an encyclopedia of the best of the best in interiors.

The designers included in this book are those who changed how we live and whom we’ll never forget. And some newbies who are currently making their mark in a big way. Americans Francis Elkins and Tom Scheerer, Brits Kit Kemp and Veere Grenney, amazing women such as Nancy McLelland and Bunny Williams. Names you know and names you must if you don’t. 100 years of the biggest and best.

Another gem of a book I received was Dior and His Decorators: Victor Grandpierre, Georges Geffroy, and the New Look by Maureen Footer. I was sold on the cover photo alone.

Here is another shot of it because it may just be THE BEST PHOTO EVER.

Victor Grandpierre and Georges Geffroy were two Parisian interior designers most closely associated with Christian Dior and this book is the first look at these 2 and their relationship. It also recounts the evolution of Dior’s aesthetic as a revolutionary fashion designer and aficionado of interior design, with his New Look unveiled in 1947. It was about creating a modern sense of elegance mixed with refined traditions of the past. Grandpierre and Geffroy brought trompe l’oeil, tiger velvet, antiques and saturated colour into the interior designer scene. It was rich, sensuous, refined. The author was provided full access to Dior archives, which makes this book a treasure, and a keeper.

Last but not least is Island Hopping by Amanda Lindroth Design with photos by Tria Giovan. If you love the tropics, or dream of living in a tropical paradise like I do, then this one is for you.

Interior designer Amanda Lindroth founded her firm in Nassau in 2010, and has become a key designer for island dwellers in Lyford Cay, Antigua, Belize, Harbour Island, Palm Beach and other jaw-dropping locations. Her aesthetic is airy, relaxed, a joining of colonial and island influences that bring together white walls, bold fabrics, cane furniture, canopied beds, straw matting etc. This book is basically a getaway to a Caribbean island in book form. Way cheaper than a trip!
