Parisian modern in San Francisco

Posted on Fri, 6 Oct 2017 by KiM

I love absolutely everything about this home in Noe Valley designed by Regan Baker. The bold, large photography art, the subtle moldings in the dining and living rooms (it just hit me that maybe this is what my dining room is missing!!), the midcentury furnishings, the brightness, bits of drama with colour, wallpaper or black walls. Yep, I’ll take it all!! Photos: Suzanna Scott

Rustic elegance by Jaimee Rose

Posted on Thu, 5 Oct 2017 by KiM

A dose of southern charm in this somewhat rustic but very much sophisticated and elegant home designed by Arizona-based interior designer Jaimee Rose. I am dying over those striped painted floors above. If you have a pantry, do something bold such as wallpaper like Jaimee did here. Have fun where you’d least expect it. Now back to those floors…this could be interesting in my guest bedroom…

Jessica has sent over a few submissions to my Monday’s pets on furniture series lately of her dog Drava and has also kindly shared her condo that she has lovingly renovated and decorated, and shares with pooch and husband Marc. She cracked me up during our email convo, particularly when she used the phrase “balling on a budget”. LOL! Here is some info from Jessica: It can be best described as a labor of love, which has gradually evolved over the past 15 years.  Located in a small Western Pennsylvania town (West Middlesex), it was a study in the late 80s – early 90s……replete with multi patterned wall paper, borders, contractor cabinetry, and flat carpeting.  And since it is a small footprint (approximately 1600 square feet), I had to select a color palette which flowed from one area to the next.  I utilized various “pops of color” throughout the space, to achieve interest.  If I had to describe my taste, it would be light, airy, frothy, and oceanic……with Scandinavian and Midcentury Modern furnishings. I love this, especially the accents of blue and turquoise throughout the condo, those sweet dining chairs and the modernized bathroom. PLus, Jessica worked her ass off – including refinishing all of the kitchen cabinets herself, removing wallpaper that didn’t want to let go, and sanding and painting every inch of “oak” trim (which took every evening over an entire winter). Must point out too that Drava looks quite at home. Thanks Jessica!

NAP Żoliborz – an architect’s showroom

Posted on Tue, 3 Oct 2017 by KiM

On Sunday I featured some work by NAP from Poland. They also sent along photos of their architect’s showroom and workspace and I am absolutely blown away buy this space. Dark colours, a mix of vintage and modern, original architecture (original window joinery, doors, jambs, wooden floors and layout of the rooms were preserved in the renovation)…it’s a style I always gravitate towards. NAP decided to paint the wood floors and stairs dark, and this led to shades of grey, graphite and peach used throughout. All furnishings and accessories are available through their store – a mix of Vitra, DCW Editions, Gubi, Carl Hansen, Tom Dixon with EMU, Fatboy and Fermob in the garden space.

🐶 I’ve been rather quiet lately. I haven’t had the drive to keep up the good work in here. You know – life – it happens, and often I have a lot to deal with, more than I “need”. Partly because my brain is “built like that” (not kiddin’). But other things is more like things everybody is dealing with, and today I feel ready to tell you that this lovely friend, our dog 💖 , passed away about three weeks ago. It was the right decision, but oh my it was much harder to see it happen than I thought. There was no way to stop those tears. We decided to get a vet to our house so he could die with no stress at home with us on his regular daily resting spot. I’m so glad we didn’t take him to the vet on his last day, it would feel so wrong. One of those terrible choices you are forced to make when you have a pet. I love this photo of him, because every night (and just at night) he walked over to this plant and was standing with his head under the leaves looking totally meditative and in transe. When you get a haircut & instantly look thinner. Just caught Pierre paws up on the spare bed desperately trying to get up so he could roll around in the cushions I had thrown on top attempting to sort out what’s making its way to the closest charity shop. Moved the chunking piece of art blocking his way, cleared a space on the bed & voila. This was after he kindly decided 40 minutes napping was ample so I woke up with him kissing my face. Now he is fast asleep as doing stunt rolls in cushions then wrestling them as if your life depended on it is clearly very exhausting & im wide awake. Didn’t want to nap anyway I’m telling myself. #dtipetsonfurniture #stuntpoodle #miniaturepoodle #poodlesrule #poodle_feature #poodlesofinstagram #hessexyandheknowsit

Mimi loves a nice Lazy Boy recliner.  It gives her height, sunlight and a nice view of the birds.  When she’s awake, she goes back and forth between the lap and the foot rest.

Just a quick note for anyone who lives around the Westboro area of Ottawa…my vet’s cat Hummus (a Flamepoint Ragdoll) has been missing for a few weeks now. She’s gotten tips of sightings of poor Hummus, the last one being Parkdale Ave down by the river, so he appears to have drifted too far from home and is now lost. If anyone sees him please take him home and email me immediately. He’s pretty old, needs his medication and his family misses him and really wants him back.
